Features:
- Interface Between the Industrial Control System and Mark VIe I/O Network
- Combines Capability of Real-Time Control Processing with Redundant Controller Support
- Operates in Conjunction with the Mark VIe Series and Standard I/O Packs
The IS420UCSBH3A operates as the Mark VIe or MarkStat Controller in a Mark VIe control system, providing reliable real-time control and data processing to all I/O packs within the system. It continuously executes control logic using its 1200 MHz Intel EP80579 microprocessor with 256 MB DDR2 SDRAM and distributes control commands through the triple redundant IONet (R/S/T) to support steady state operation of all I/O modules and field devices. Seamless controller operation is standard with the IS420UCSBH3A, however using an optional Redundant Controller Configuration will allow seamless switchover to a backup controller in the event of a primary controller failure. The IS420UCSBH3A has made improvements in several areas over previous controller designs in addition to incorporating universal 18-36 VDC input voltage capability within the Mark VIe rack.
The IS420UCSBH3A provides essential control functions common to the entire system, and is a critical component of the control path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall control system. One or two IS420UCSBH3A controllers are required per control segment depending on the desired redundancy level. The IS420UCSBH3A occupies a standard controller slot in the rack and is always located in the dedicated controller positions.
For Dual Redundant Controller applications, the Mark VIe System requires a second IS420UCSBH3A controller module installed in the redundant slot. In addition to standard single controller operation, the redundant configuration also performs automatic switchover. The Mark VIe dual controller configuration executes failover using the internal circuitry specified in the controller options. Using this method, the redundant controller system continually monitors the health of both controllers. If the system detects that the primary controller is no longer providing stable output (outside configured tolerance levels), it will automatically transfer the control load to the secondary controller and place an event in the System Event List.
The IS420UCSBH3A GE Mark VIe/MarkStat Controller may still be available for purchase and support from authorized distributors beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- High-Speed Turbine Control: Manages gas/steam turbine startup, loading, and grid sync with microsecond precision; executes fuel and IGV algorithms to avoid resonance.
- Balance of Plant (BoP) Coordination: Controls auxiliary systems (lube oil pumps, cooling loops, breakers); ensures synchronization with turbine state to prevent nuisance trips.
- MarkStat Regulation: Functions as a high-speed static regulator for gas compression stations, maintaining pressure/flow setpoints against variable pipeline demand.
- Redundant Critical Processes: Supports seamless failover for 99.999% uptime (e.g., combined cycle plants, backup power); eliminates single-point-of-failure during firmware upgrades or hardware swaps.
- IEEE 1588 I/O Synchronization: Synchronizes all I/O packs within 100 microseconds via R/S/T IONets; ensures accurate time-stamping for vibration monitors and trip signals across racks.
- Lossless Redundancy Architecture: No input data loss when a controller is powered down; maintenance does not create a data gap.
- Online Logic Modification: Supports rung/block edits without system restart; allows PID tuning and interlock changes online, reducing downtime.
- Active/Standby Management: Front-panel "DC" LED indicates active master; shadow controller takes over within a single execution cycle on primary failure.
- 0°C to +65°C ATEX T4 Rating: DEMKO-certified ambient range; surface temperature will not auto-ignite IIC group gases even at maximum load.
- Hazardous Location Suitability: Certified for Class I, Div 2 (Groups A-D) and ATEX Zone 2, Group IIC; direct installation in turbine or compressor areas without expensive explosion-proof enclosures.
- Passive FANLESS Cooling: Vertical cooling fins with natural convection eliminates fan failure points in dusty/humid environments; requires unobstructed vertical airflow for reliable thermal performance.
- 18-36 VDC Wide Input Tolerance: Resilient against brownouts and 25% voltage sags; remains operational when large solenoids or actuators load the shared power bus.
