Features:
- Interface Between Peer-to-Peer Trusted Controllers and Ethernet Network Infrastructure
- Combines Capability of Deterministic Master/Slave Communication with Redundant Data Path Support
- Operates in Conjunction with the T812X and T813X Processor Interface Adapters
The ICS TRIPLEX T8017 operates as the Peer to Peer Communications Software Package for Trusted controller networks, enabling reliable information sharing among up to 40 Trusted controllers. It continuously facilitates deterministic master/slave communications using Ethernet and User Datagram Protocol (UDP) in a multi-drop bus structure, with a single master per network managing data distribution across the entire system. Seamless peer-to-peer communication is standard with the T8017, and using up to eight physical Ethernet networks will allow redundant data paths via up to eight separate physical routes (four communications interface modules each with two Ethernet ports). The T8017 has been TÜV approved for SIL 3 applications, incorporating robust safety integrity within the Trusted controller communication architecture.
The T8017 provides essential communication functions common to the entire peer network, and is a critical component of the distributed control path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall Trusted controller system. One T8017 software package is required per controller participating in the peer network. The T8017 software is provided on a separate CD and is always installed alongside the Processor Interface Adapter hardware.
For redundant network applications, the Trusted System requires up to four communications interface modules per controller, with each module configured as either master or slave per network, but not both simultaneously. In addition to standard single network operation, the redundant configuration also performs automatic routing and selection of redundant data. The T8017 network configuration executes failover using the internal network intelligence specified in the communications interface module options. Using this method, the redundant peer-to-peer system continually monitors the health of all network paths. If the system detects that a primary network route is no longer providing stable data transmission, it will automatically transfer data flow to an alternative route without requiring data selection and voting logic in the application layer, and maintain deterministic communication integrity across the T8017 network.
The T8017 ICS TRIPLEX Peer-to-Peer Communications Software Package may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Distributed Safety Interlocking: Safeguards cross-controller shutdown actions in geographically distributed plants. It can execute a global emergency shutdown across multiple production cells.
- Emergency Shutdown (ESD) Systems: Manages critical peer-to-peer variables across independent system nodes. It is widely used in oil and gas refineries, offshore platforms, and chemical processing facilities.
- Fire & Gas (F&G) Network Coordination: Facilitates sensor-to-actuator data sharing between localized F&G mitigation subsystems. This guarantees a localized or facility-wide multi-zone safety response.
- Critical Process Control Coordination: Coordinates high-density data transactions across redundant controller networks. It is built for high-risk environments like power generation and pipeline operations.
- Hardware Compatibility: Explicitly integrates with Trusted Communications Interface Modules. This includes the T8150, T8151, and T8151B hardware modules.
- Protocol Support: Runs over standard Ethernet topologies utilizing the User Datagram Protocol (UDP). It wraps this in a deterministic master/slave bus structure. It handles both Simplex (sxp2p) port 4000 definitions and Enhanced (dxp) port 5000 definitions.
- Network Scalability: Supports the linking of up to 40 distinct Trusted Controllers per individual P2P network. Each individual controller can simultaneously host up to 8 independent P2P networks.
- Physical Path Redundancy: Drives data routing through up to 8 separate physical Ethernet lines. It utilizes up to four communications interface modules per chassis to deliver automated link redundancy.
- SIL 3 Certification: The software package and its underlying communications frameworks are TÜV approved. They are certified for use in safety-related data interchanges up to Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3) according to IEC 61508.
- Fault Tolerance & Determinism: Incorporates strict timeout mechanisms and internal CRC safety checks. If a critical network link is severed, the data packets fail-safe according to pre-configured application safety logic.
- Isolation Capabilities: Works in tandem with the communications modules to provide comprehensive galvanic and electrical isolation. This prevents electromagnetic or fault propagation from the network into the safety controller backplane.
