Features:
- Minimizes conduction loss; 60mΩ at -4.5V; 85mΩ at -2.5V; suitable for load switching and power management.
- Turn‑on delay 6.5ns, turn‑off delay 41ns; ideal for high‑frequency PWM applications such as LED dimming and small motor drives.
- Suitable for space‑constrained designs; RoHS and halogen‑free compliant.
The AO3481 achieves a maximum RDS(ON) of 50mΩ at VGS = -10V and ID = -4.0A. This low on‑resistance minimizes voltage drop across the MOSFET when it is conducting, which reduces power dissipation (I²R losses). For a load current of 4A, the voltage drop is only 0.2V and power loss is 0.8W. At lower gate drive voltages, RDS(ON) is still acceptable: 60mΩ at -4.5V and 85mΩ at -2.5V.
The AO3481 has a total gate charge (Qg) of only 14nC at VGS = -10V and VDS = -15V. At 4.5V gate drive, Qg drops to 7nC. This low gate charge reduces the power consumed by the gate driver, especially at high switching frequencies. The gate driver only needs to supply a small amount of charge to turn the MOSFET on and off quickly. The switching times are also fast: turn‑on delay (td(on)) is 6.5ns, rise time (tr) is 3.5ns, turn‑off delay (td(off)) is 41ns, and fall time (tf) is 9ns (typical). These fast switching speeds allow the AO3481 to be used in PWM (pulse‑width modulation) applications up to several hundred kilohertz.
The AO3481 is housed in a SOT‑23 (Surface‑Mount) package, which measures approximately 3.0mm in length, 1.4mm in width, and 1.1mm in height (typical). This compact footprint is ideal for space‑constrained PCBs, such as those found in portable electronics, wearables, and embedded modules. Despite its small size, the AO3481 is rated for a continuous drain current of -4.0A at 25°C ambient (derated to -3.2A at 70°C). To achieve this current rating, the device must be mounted on a PCB with adequate copper area for heat spreading.
The AO3481 Triconex P‑Channel MOSFET may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL)by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Safety Control Valve Actuation: Converts digital commands from the main processors into 8 independent 4–20 mA analog signals to precisely modulate control valves, steam governors, and chemical injection regulators.
- Turbine & Compressor Anti-Surge Systems: Deployed in high-pressure steam/gas turbines and compressor control networks to provide sub-millisecond dynamic analog outputs for surge prevention.
- Emergency Depressurization & Isolation: Executes safety-related proportional throttling for emergency blowdown valves, safety relief valves, and motor-operated valves (MOVs) during thermal or pressure overruns.
- Firmware Compatibility Lock: The onboard firmware is locked and certified by international safety bodies (such as TÜV). It cannot be casually patched. The firmware version must strictly match the Tricon System Compatibility List (TS113) defined for your core Tricon controller.
- Update Execution Path: Daily operational maintenance requires no firmware adjustments since the module contains embedded self-calibration logic. If a critical safety patch or a major system upgrade (e.g., migrating from Tricon v9 to v10) is required, the update must be performed during a planned plant turnaround by a certified Schneider Electric engineer using proprietary flash utilities.
- Load Fault Monitoring: Diagnostic thresholds are configured to trigger system alarms if a field circuit loop experiences an open circuit (broken wire) or a short-circuit overload condition.
- Hardware Voting Mechanism: In the programming code, engineers only interact with a single logical variable tag. Internally, the 3481 module replicates this variable across three isolated, independent channels.
- Programming Standards: Logic is authored using IEC 61131-3 standard languages (such as Function Block Diagrams - FBD, or Structured Text - ST).
- Automatic Zero-Drift Calibration: Each channel features a dedicated internal voltage reference source that conducts automatic background self-calibrations, ensuring the 4–20 mA loop does not suffer from long-term thermal or signal drift.
