Features:
- Interface Between the Host PC and Multi-Axis Motion Control Systems
- Combines Capability of High-Speed Motion Processing with Distributed MACRO Ring Control
- Operates in Conjunction with UMAC MACRO, Geo MACRO Drives and Third-Party MACRO Devices
The DELTA 603871-108 operates as the Turbo Clipper Controller in a PMAC2A-ETH motion control system, providing reliable real-time control to all servo axes within the network. It continuously processes motion commands through an 80 MHz DSP56303 Turbo PMAC CPU and distributes precise control signals through the MACRO ring to support synchronized operation of all drives and motors. Seamless communication is standard with the DELTA 603871-108, however using an optional Redundant Power Configuration will allow seamless switchover to a backup supply in the event of a primary power failure. The DELTA 603871-108 has made improvements in several areas over previous PMAC2 designs in addition to incorporating universal communication capability through USB 2.0, Ethernet and RS-232 interfaces within the motion control architecture.
The DELTA 603871-108 provides essential control functions common to the entire motion system, and is a critical component of the servo control path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall multi-axis control system. One DELTA 603871-108 controller is required per MACRO ring depending on the desired axis count (up to 32 axes). The DELTA 603871-108 occupies a compact standalone enclosure measuring 38mm × 180mm × 230mm and can be mounted in standard industrial control cabinets.
For High-Axis-Count applications, the PMAC2A-ETH System requires proper configuration of the DELTA 603871-108 controller with appropriate optional interfaces. In addition to standard single-controller operation, the system also performs automatic error detection and correction. The PMAC2A-ETH dual-port RAM configuration executes high-speed data exchange using the internal dual-ported RAM specified in the controller options (Opt 2B). Using this method, the control system continually monitors the health of all servo loops. If the system detects that any axis is no longer following the commanded trajectory (outside configured position/velocity tolerance levels), it will automatically apply corrective action and update the servo status registers.
The DELTA 603871-108 Delta Tau Turbo Clipper Controller may still be available for purchase and support from authorized distributors beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
