Features:

  • ControlNet Target or Originator operation
  • EtherNet/IP Target or Originator operation
  • Modbus TCP/IP Client or Server mapping
ControlNet assets can remain in service while Ethernet controllers are introduced by using the A-CNR as the routing boundary. The router supports scheduled and unscheduled exchanges rather than acting as a simple media converter.

ControlNet Target, Originator, Keeper, redundant-media, and capture functions are combined with EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP/IP services. PCCC data files also provide a path for supported legacy PanelView-style communication.

Connection ownership and the ControlNet schedule should be documented before configuration. Keeper status, A/B coax media, node allocation, Logix connection sizes, Modbus maps, and DLR settings determine the final Slate project.
Apter Power offers ControlNet application review and quotation support for the ProSoft A-CNR ControlNet Router.

Description
The A-CNR is a ProSoft ControlNet Router for bridging ControlNet with Ethernet networks. It provides intelligent routing between EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP/IP and ControlNet. The router can operate as a ControlNet Target owned by a Logix controller through a scheduled connection. In Originator mode it can own ControlNet I/O or exchange data with up to ten ControlNet devices.

The A-CNR also supports PCCC Client operation, allowing PLC5- or SLC5-style data files to provide a legacy interface for compatible PanelView applications. EtherNet/IP Target and Originator modes support Class 1 connections, explicit messaging, and Direct-To-Tag Logix functions. Modbus TCP/IP Client mode maps ControlNet data to registers in as many as twenty server devices, while Server mode makes mapped ControlNet data available to Modbus clients. Redundant ControlNet and Ethernet architectures, ControlNet Keeper operation, and Promiscuous Capture mode are supported.

The A-CNR uses Slate Configuration Utility to define ControlNet, Ethernet, controller, and device connections. A built-in webserver displays operating status and communication statistics without requiring separate diagnostic software. Two BNC connectors provide ControlNet A and B connectivity, and two Ethernet ports support Device Level Ring operation. ProSoft issued a lifecycle statement in August 2025 committing to continued ControlNet Router support for more than ten years from that statement date.

Can A-CNR connect existing ControlNet I/O to an EtherNet/IP Logix platform?
A-CNR can own ControlNet I/O as an Originator and exchange data with an Ethernet-side Logix system; verify connection sizes and scheduling.
Which ControlNet roles can A-CNR perform?
A-CNR supports ControlNet Target, Originator, Keeper, redundant media, and Promiscuous Capture functions as described in the official documentation.
Can A-CNR exchange ControlNet data with Modbus TCP/IP devices?
A-CNR can operate as a Modbus TCP/IP Client or Server and map ControlNet data to register ranges for compatible devices.
How is A-CNR configured?
A-CNR uses Slate Configuration Utility to define Ethernet settings, ControlNet roles, scheduled or unscheduled connections, and protocol mappings.
What should I check when A-CNR is not communicating?
A-CNR checks should include ControlNet A/B media, node and keeper status, Ethernet link, connection ownership, schedule limits, and mapping diagnostics.
What is the lifecycle status of A-CNR?
A-CNR is supported by a current ProSoft product page, and the August 2025 official lifecycle statement commits to more than ten years of support.
What information is needed to quote A-CNR?
A-CNR enquiries should include quantity, ControlNet topology, controller models, required Target or Originator role, protocol mapping, and destination.
