More Information

Overview Manuals SLC Platform Fit Communication Ports Development Environment Applications

Features:

  • Programmable communications: Runs a C application that exchanges data with the SLC processor and connected devices.
  • Mixed interfaces: Provides one Ethernet port and three serial interfaces in a single SLC slot.
  • Field isolation: Both application serial ports are isolated from the module electronics.
MVI46-ADMNET is intended for projects that need custom data handling rather than a fixed communication protocol.

The application can move data between the SLC backplane, serial instruments and Ethernet hosts under user-written logic.

Retaining the source program and its configuration files is part of spare-module planning because the hardware alone does not reproduce the installed function.

Apter Power supports the ProSoft MVI46-ADMNET SLC C Programmable Application Development Module with Ethernet through quotations, official documentation and installed-application review.

Important Notice: Other accessories, manuals, cables, calibration data, software, etc. are not included with this equipment unless listed in the above stock item description. All prices are shown in USD.
  • Backplane: Single-slot module for the Rockwell Automation SLC platform.
  • Allowed racks: Install in a local rack or an extended I/O rack.
  • Remote-rack limit: ProSoft does not support this module in a remote I/O rack.
  • Processor exchange: Backplane logic transfers data between the user application and SLC processor.
  • Ethernet: One RJ45 10/100Base-T interface supports network communication by the user application.
  • CFG port: RS-232 configuration and debugging interface.
  • PRT1 and PRT2: Each application port supports RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485.
  • Isolation: Both application ports are isolated for field-device connections.
  • Operating environment: General-purpose DOS 6-XL supports the onboard application.
  • Programming interface: The ADM API supplies backplane, serial, Ethernet, timer and file functions.
  • Storage: 896 KB flash, 640 KB RAM and CompactFlash support up to 16 GB.
  • Compiler support: ProSoft lists compatible Digital Mars C++ and Borland C++ toolchains.
  • Custom protocol handling: Implement a plant-specific serial or Ethernet message exchange in C.
  • Legacy equipment links: Connect barcode scanners, printers or other serial devices to an SLC application.
  • Data concentration: Collect device data and present selected values to the SLC processor.
  • Application limit: This is not a preconfigured protocol gateway; the deployed program defines its behavior.
Description
MVI46-ADMNET gives a Rockwell Automation SLC processor a programmable communications slot. It runs a user-developed C application that can exchange data with the backplane while serving serial or Ethernet-connected devices.

MVI46-ADMNET combines one 10/100 Ethernet port with three serial interfaces. The configuration port is RS-232, while PRT1 and PRT2 can be set for RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 and are isolated for field connections.

MVI46-ADMNET belongs in a local or extended SLC rack, not a remote rack. A service or development project should confirm the chassis position, application source, API version, port mode and field wiring before the module is released.

Technical notes
MVI46-ADMNET is a programmable development platform rather than a fixed-protocol gateway. Preserve the installed C application and confirm SLC backplane placement, serial electrical mode and Ethernet addressing before replacement.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
A project needs a fixed Modbus gateway rather than custom code; is MVI46-ADMNET the right choice?
Choose this module only when the project can supply and maintain a custom C application. ProSoft presents it as an application-development platform, not a preconfigured Modbus gateway.
When replacing MVI46-ADMNET, which software assets are needed to restore the installed behavior?
The functional spare needs the user-developed C application, configuration files, port settings and SLC ladder mapping. Hardware replacement alone will not recreate the installed data exchange.
Can MVI46-ADMNET use RS-232 on one application port and RS-485 on the other?
PRT1 and PRT2 can be configured independently for RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485. Match each port’s jumper, wiring and application settings to its connected device.
Why can an MVI46-ADMNET serial device remain silent even when Ethernet communication is healthy?
Ethernet success does not validate either serial path. Compare the selected PRT port, jumper mode, field wiring, baud and framing settings, then review the C routine assigned to that port.
Should a buyer expect CompactFlash media to be supplied with MVI46-ADMNET?
No storage media should be assumed in the shipment. The module provides a socket supporting up to a 16 GB Microdrive, and ProSoft states that the media is not supplied.
Can the MVI46-ADMNET CFG port be commissioned with RTS/CTS hardware flow control?
The CFG interface is RS-232 only and ProSoft specifies no hardware handshaking. Use a commissioning connection and terminal settings that do not depend on RTS/CTS.
