Features:
- One AS-Interface V3.0 master links the S7-1200 CPU to as many as 62 field devices.
- The backplane carries controller data while the AS-i profile conductors supply the field-network side.
- Five LED groups separate network, power, module, configuration and diagnostic states.
AS-i sensors and actuators exchange data with the master over the profile cable.
The CM maps digital and analog values into S7-1200 process data and data records.
The backplane returns those values and diagnostic states to the CPU while keeping the AS-i side galvanically isolated.
The Siemens 3RK7243-2AA30-0XB0 CM 1243-2 AS-Interface Master may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Polling field devices and organizing their process data
- Device capacity: One master addresses as many as 62 AS-i devices.
- Digital map: Up to 496 inputs and 496 outputs enter the process image.
- Analog map: Analog values use process-image addresses and data-record transfer.
- Cycle time: Polling takes 5 ms for 31 devices and 10 ms for 62 devices.
Keeping the controller backplane and AS-i network electrically distinct
- Backplane current: The module draws up to 250 mA from the S7-1200 bus.
- AS-i current: Up to 100 mA is drawn from the profile conductors at 30 V.
- Isolation: Galvanic separation uses a 500 V rated insulation boundary.
- Power loss: The module dissipates 2.9 W under documented conditions.
Aligning the physical master with the S7-1200 project
- STEP 7: The hardware and AS-i network are configured in the controller project.
- Command interface: Program commands can access the documented master functions.
- CPU capacity: No more than three communication modules in total are used per CPU.
- Master profile: M4 functions follow AS-Interface specification V3.0.
Separating network and module conditions at the front panel
- AS-i: Shows the AS-Interface network state.
- PF: Indicates the documented power-fault condition.
- CM: Represents communication-module status.
- CER and DIAG: Distinguish configuration error from diagnostic status.
