Features:
- Two BusAdapter positions create a four-port media configuration.
- IRT handling coordinates scheduled PROFINET traffic with ordinary Ethernet frames.
- A redundant supply input and fault contact separate power continuity from alarm signaling.
The installed BusAdapters determine which copper or optical connections are available.
A PROFINET controller can read device status while management access remains available through web, CLI or SNMP.
An optional C-PLUG carries saved parameters independently of the switch base device.
The Siemens 6GK5204-2AA00-2BD2 SCALANCE XF204-2BA IRT Switch may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Building four ports from two replaceable media positions
- Base device: The switch itself provides two BusAdapter interfaces rather than fixed front Ethernet sockets.
- Adapter pair: Each selected BusAdapter contributes the documented port arrangement for its medium.
- Media check: Both adapter type and port count must match the planned copper or optical links.
- Service boundary: A switch replacement can retain the adapters only after connector and hardware compatibility are verified.
Carrying synchronized PROFINET frames through the managed switch
- IRT window: Scheduled real-time traffic receives the deterministic forwarding reserved by the project.
- Standard traffic: Ordinary Ethernet frames use the remaining communication intervals.
- IO device role: The automation controller reads diagnostic and topology data from the switch.
- Project match: Port and domain settings must agree with the PROFINET engineering configuration.
Restoring communication around a configured network interruption
- Manager function: The integrated redundancy manager supervises the defined ring.
- Supported methods: MRP, MRPD, HRP and PRP serve different documented topologies.
- Fault signal: The signaling contact can report a configured network or power condition externally.
- Recovery check: Both ring ports and protocol roles must be verified after cabling changes.
Keeping commissioning, monitoring and stored configuration separate
- Web access: Browser-based management presents configuration and port status.
- CLI access: Command-line operation provides a text path for defined settings and diagnostics.
- SNMP supervision: SNMP v1, v2c and v3 expose monitored values to network management.
- C-PLUG media: The optional removable memory stores parameters for transfer to replacement hardware.
