Features:
- Eight 10/100 Mbit/s RJ45 ports connect copper Industrial Ethernet devices.
- Management functions expose port, topology and device status.
- Redundant 24 V inputs and a signaling contact separate power and alarm paths.
The forwarding table sends frames only toward their learned destination ports.
MRP, HRP and PRP functions provide their documented network-redundancy roles.
A C-PLUG can carry saved device configuration to approved replacement hardware.
The Siemens 6GK5208-0BA10-2AA3 SCALANCE X208 Managed Industrial Ethernet Switch may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Directing Ethernet frames across eight copper links
- Link negotiation: Each RJ45 port establishes the supported rate with its attached device.
- Address learning: The switch records source addresses against their incoming ports.
- Frame delivery: Known destinations are forwarded only to the learned egress port.
- VLAN boundary: Configured membership limits traffic to the intended logical network.
Matching the switch role to the configured topology
- MRP: The switch performs its assigned media-redundancy role in a PROFINET ring.
- HRP: High-speed ring settings require the matching Siemens topology.
- PRP: Parallel Redundancy Protocol follows the documented dual-network arrangement.
- Role check: Only the intended manager or client role is enabled for each ring.
Keeping redundant feeds and fault signaling visible
- Supply one: The first 24 V source feeds one side of the redundant input.
- Supply two: The second source provides the alternate feed.
- Relay contact: The hardwired contact reports the configured fault condition.
- Management alarm: SNMP and the web interface provide additional network-visible status.
Moving saved configuration to approved replacement hardware
- Stored identity: The media retains the documented switch configuration outside the unit.
- Power-off move: The C-PLUG is transferred only with the equipment de-energized.
- Hardware check: Replacement compatibility is confirmed before the stored data is used.
- Network test: Address, VLAN and redundancy status are verified after startup.
