Features:
- Two copper and two multimode fiber ports join electrical and optical PROFINET segments.
- IRT forwarding supports time-coordinated PROFINET communication alongside standard Ethernet traffic.
- An integrated redundancy manager and diagnostic contact coordinate network and cabinet fault reporting.
The X202-2IRT learns network addresses and directs each frame only toward the port that reaches its destination.
Its fiber pair crosses electrically noisy or longer network sections without converting the BFOC links into copper connections.
Management and removable C-PLUG memory provide separate paths for diagnostics and device configuration retention.
The Siemens 6GK5202-2BB10-2BA3 SCALANCE X202-2IRT Managed Switch may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Coordinating scheduled and ordinary Ethernet frames
- IRT path: PROFINET class C traffic is forwarded according to the configured real-time schedule.
- Standard frames: Non-IRT Ethernet data continues through the remaining transmission windows.
- Port assignment: Every connected PROFINET device must occupy the port defined by the engineered topology.
- Time relationship: Synchronization and switch configuration work together to preserve the intended cycle behavior.
Extending the network through multimode optical links
- Optical medium: Both BFOC/ST ports use 100BASE-FX multimode fiber rather than single-mode cabling.
- Transmit pairing: Each fiber transmit path must terminate at the receive side of the remote port.
- Media boundary: The switch converts frames between optical and copper interfaces while keeping their electrical paths isolated.
- Link indication: Port diagnostics distinguish a missing optical link from a fault on either RJ45 segment.
Selecting one recovery method for the network design
- MRP mode: A Media Redundancy Protocol ring uses one configured manager and compatible ring clients.
- HRP mode: High-speed redundancy follows its own ring roles and must match the partner devices.
- PRP mode: Parallel Redundancy Protocol sends traffic through two independent LAN paths without using a ring manager.
- Topology choice: The recovery method, port allocation and remote devices must be engineered as one network arrangement.
Separating commissioning, monitoring and stored configuration
- Web access: The browser interface presents device and port status through the configured management address.
- CLI access: The command-line path exposes configuration and diagnostic commands for controlled administration.
- SNMP data: MIB objects let a network-management station read supported switch and port information.
- C-PLUG memory: The optional removable module carries supported configuration data separately from the fixed switch hardware.
