Features:
- Coordinates redundant CPU operation through two synchronization interfaces.
- Combines PROFINET, PROFIBUS DP, and MPI communication on the processor.
- Separates 16 MB of working memory into program and data sections.
The CPU 416-5H PN/DP places processing, network communication, and redundant synchronization in one two-slot S7-400 module.
Its memory division provides a dedicated area for control code and a larger data area for the values maintained during execution.
Integrated PN and DP ports let the controller manage Ethernet and fieldbus traffic without consuming separate communication-module slots for those functions.
The Siemens 6ES7416-5HS06-0AB0 CPU 416-5H PN/DP Central Processing Unit may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Separating program and process data
- Code area: Six megabytes are allocated to executable blocks and program structures.
- Data area: Ten megabytes hold runtime data used by the control program.
- Address image: Input and output address spaces are each organized up to 16 KB.
- Retention: Configured memory behavior determines which values are preserved through operating transitions.
Handling Ethernet automation traffic
- IO controller: The integrated PROFINET interface can control assigned IO devices.
- Transfer rate: Ethernet communication operates at up to 100 Mbit/s.
- Shared processor: Network services and the user program run within the same CPU architecture.
- Project assignment: Device names, addresses, and IO relationships are stored in the STEP 7 configuration.
Dividing fieldbus connections
- MPI/DP port: The first connector can serve MPI communication or a configured DP network.
- Second DP port: A separate integrated interface supports another PROFIBUS DP segment.
- Independent setup: Each bus interface receives its own network parameters in the hardware project.
- Station mapping: Remote data is assigned to CPU address areas through the configured DP devices.
Maintaining the redundant processor pair
- Dual links: Two synchronization-module ports connect the paired H CPUs.
- State coordination: The synchronization paths keep the redundant processors aligned during operation.
- Rack planning: Both partner stations require the specified synchronization hardware and matching configuration.
- Fault separation: The H architecture separates redundant CPU paths while presenting one coordinated control system.
