Features:
- The hardware is a Plug and Play PCI card.
- The PROFIBUS connector has screw retention.
- Additional signals support the PLC direct link.
Operating software is supplied separately from 6GK1561-1AA01. Fitting the board establishes the hardware connection but does not itself install the communication software required by the application.
The PLC direct-link signals of 6GK1561-1AA01 have their own supported transmission-rate boundary. That function must not be assumed to operate at the maximum PROFIBUS rate.
The communication processor 6GK1561-1AA01 uses the short PCI board format. The computer housing and supported slot arrangement determine the mechanical installation, not the shape of the external PROFIBUS connector.
The Siemens 6GK1561-1AA01 CP 5611 A2 PCI Communication Processor may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Distinguish data conductors from transmit-control lines
- Bus data: LTG_B and LTG_A carry the differential receive/transmit signal pair.
- PLC transmit: RTSAS is an input indicating when the PLC is sending on the direct link.
- PC transmit: RTS is an output indicating when the PC or programming device is sending.
- Shield termination: The cable shield terminates at the connector housing rather than a signal-data pin.
Resolve computer resources before fieldbus commissioning
- Required allocation: The card needs memory windows and an interrupt to operate.
- Startup assignment: PCI BIOS or the Plug and Play operating system assigns these resources when the computer starts.
- BIOS conflict: A PCI network-controller resource message can indicate that the necessary resources are unavailable.
- Legacy hardware: Resources already occupied by non-Plug-and-Play ISA boards require the relevant host hardware configuration to be corrected.
Follow the enclosure and board handling sequence
- Isolation: Shut down the computer and disconnect its power cable before opening the enclosure.
- ESD handling: Handle the board by its edges and avoid touching pins or electronic components.
- Slot insertion: Insert the board firmly and evenly into a supported PCI slot.
- Enclosure closure: Close the computer housing before reconnecting power and starting the computer.
Match the driver environment to this legacy card
- Existing applications: The current product description limits this card to existing applications.
- Operating-system exclusion: Windows 9x support is not provided.
- SIMATIC NET version: The stated SIMATIC NET V8.2 support is 32-bit support, not a blanket claim for every host platform.
- Separate selection: The computer slot, operating system and communication software must all be checked independently.
