Features:
- Executes arithmetic, open-loop and closed-loop control functions in one S7-400 slot.
- Uses an MMC for the configured application program and service recovery.
- Exchanges signals through eight binary inputs, RS232 service access and PROFIBUS DP.
The application module processes its assigned control tasks independently while remaining integrated with the surrounding S7-400 station.
A removable program medium lets maintenance teams preserve the loaded application before board service begins.
Service work should treat power, cooling, field inputs and the DP network as one coordinated installation.
The Siemens 6DD1607-0AA1 FM 458-1 DP Application Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Protecting the loaded application
- MMC medium: The module accepts 2 MB, 4 MB or 8 MB cards for the configured program.
- Backup control: A verified copy should be retained before the card or module is removed from the rack.
- Card identity: The service record should connect the physical MMC to the correct machine and software release.
- Restart review: After restoration, controller states and dependent axes or processes should be checked before enabling outputs.
Working through the local diagnostic port
- RS232 access: The serial service connection provides a direct path for engineering and diagnostic work.
- Cable match: The maintenance cable and port settings must suit the documented service interface.
- Program state: Local access can be used to inspect the running application and stored diagnostic information.
- Change control: Any uploaded or downloaded application should be tied to the plant backup and revision record.
Coordinating PROFIBUS communication
- Bus speed: The interface supports DP communication up to 12 Mbaud when the entire segment is configured accordingly.
- Node settings: Address and parameter records must agree with the master project and connected devices.
- Termination: Both physical bus ends need the correct active termination before communication can stabilize.
- Fault isolation: Compare local module status with master diagnostics to separate application faults from network faults.
Managing power and cabinet conditions
- Backplane supply: The AA1 module draws approximately 2.2 A from the 5 V rack supply.
- Heat load: About 11 W of dissipation must be included in the cabinet cooling calculation.
- Slot planning: The single-slot board still requires clearance for front connectors and service access.
- Input environment: The 24 V binary-input circuits should remain within the documented signal ranges and grounding scheme.
