Features:
- Provides native Modbus master or slave connectivity for ABB Advant OCS, enabling integration with a wide range of third‑party devices.
- Supports RS‑232, RS‑485 and RS‑422 physical layers, allowing it to work with different network topologies and distances.
- Equipped with power, transmit, receive and fault LEDs, which greatly simplify commissioning and troubleshooting of the serial communication link.
The DTCA711A brings native Modbus RTU connectivity to ABB’s Advant OCS. In many older plants, field devices such as variable speed drives, flow meters, and weighing systems still rely on Modbus RTU. Without a dedicated interface, the Advant controller would require complex programming or additional gateways. The DTCA711A solves this by acting as a direct communication co‑processor.
Field conditions vary widely. Some devices are located only a few meters away and can be connected with RS‑232. Others are spread across the plant floor and require the noise‑immune RS‑485 interface for multi‑drop wiring. The DTCA711A supports RS‑232, RS‑485 and RS‑422, allowing engineers to match the physical layer to the cabling and distances of their specific installation. The RS‑485 port can be wired in 2‑wire or 4‑wire configuration, giving even more flexibility for half‑duplex or full‑duplex networks.
Serial communication faults can be time‑consuming to trace because the problem may be in the cabling, the connector, the device parameters, or the controller program. The DTCA711A simplifies this with its front‑panel LEDs. A green Power LED confirms the module is receiving backplane power. Yellow Tx and Rx LEDs flash when data is being transmitted or received, giving a quick visual indication that the module is actively communicating. A red Fault LED points to internal hardware issues.
The DTCA711A ABB Interface Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL)by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Oil & Gas / Petrochemical: Governs continuous flow tracking, automated pressure letdown stations, and oil-gas separation valve positions at processing facilities.
- Power Generation & Utility: Controls boiler feedwater pumps, ID/FD draft fan dampers, and governor valve positions on steam or gas turbine sets.
- Chemical & Pharmaceutical: Mandated in high-precision temperature, pressure, and batching reaction loops requiring immediate valve corrections.
- Metallurgy & Mining: Drives high-capacity blast furnace blower systems, cooling water flow manifolds, and raw material conveyor feed-rate speed inputs.
- High-Resolution Output Conversion: Utilizes an integrated 12-bit (or higher) Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) to output minute micro-ampere or millivolt increments, eliminating steady-state hunting and control oscillation.
- Standardized Industrial Interface: Fully compatible with industry-standard 4-20mA current loops and 0-10VDC voltage modes to seamlessly interface with worldwide actuators and field electro-pneumatic positioners.
- Low Power Consumption Profile: Runs off standard 24 VDC cabinet backplane distribution. Low internal heat generation allows high-density side-by-side rail mounting without reducing component lifespan due to cabinet heat buildup.
- Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Speed Control: Signals local motor drives on large process pumps or industrial blowers to continuously match motor RPM with demand, optimizing system energy efficiency..
- Electro-Hydraulic Servo Actuators: Controls high-pressure hydraulic servo-valves or electronic dampers on heavy utility machinery to manage mechanical governor tracking.
- Remote Setpoint Provisioning: Transmits current process setpoints directly to downstream standalone localized logic controllers, specialized furnace heating power banks, or third-party skid packages.
