Features:
- Power Distribution Hub for DCS800 Converter Low-Voltage Circuits
- Integrates Armature Bridge Control with Built-In Excitation Management
- Adapts to 115 VAC or 230 VAC Auxiliary Input with Jumper-Selectable Relay Logic
The SDCS-PIN-4 serves as the dedicated power interface board within ABB DCS800 DC converter modules rated D1 through D4+ (20 A to 1190 A). It accepts auxiliary voltage inputs of 115 VAC or 230 VAC and automatically adapts to the incoming supply, distributing all low-voltage power required by the drive and its connected expansion options. The SDCS-PIN-4 also incorporates high-impedance measurement circuits for both DC and AC voltages within the armature bridge, and it provides current-transformer interfaces for armature-current sensing. For D1 to D4 frame sizes, the SDCS-PIN-4 additionally manages the on-board exciter and controls excitation current, with drive firmware automatically configuring current and voltage measurements, load-resistance settings, and 2-Q/4-Q operating modes.
The SDCS-PIN-4 is a critical element in the DCS800 power path, directly influencing proper operation of the overall drive system. It mounts inside the module and bonds to chassis ground through its grounding terminal. The board supports main supply voltages ranging from 230 V up to 525 V, as well as 600 V configurations, and its compact design maintains a minimal footprint within the converter assembly.
For applications where the auxiliary supply is a stable 230 VAC or 115 VAC source, the SDCS-PIN-4 can be configured via jumper S1 in the 1-2 position to enable relay K301. In environments with fluctuating 230 VAC auxiliary power—such as diesel-generator networks—jumper S1 must be set to 2-3 to lock the SDCS-PIN-4 into fixed 230 VAC mode and ensure stable operation. This selectable logic allows the SDCS-PIN-4 to accommodate varying site conditions without hardware replacement. A related variant, the SDCS-PIN-4b, also supports 115/230 VAC auto-recognition but does not implement the S1 jumper relay-switching function, making the two boards complementary choices for different installation requirements.
The SDCS-PIN-4 ABB Interface board may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
