More Information

Overview Manuals Memory Planning Firmware Record Migration Boundary Application
  • 16 MB user memory and 478 KB I/O memory for the ControlLogix 5560 platform
  • 1756-L64/B requires RSLogix 5000 version 16.03.00 or later
  • Optional 1784-CF128 CompactFlash media is not supplied with the controller

1756-L64 is the 16 MB member of the ControlLogix 5560 controller range and maintains a separate 478 KB I/O-memory allocation.

Series B uses the 1756-BA2 battery and can use optional CompactFlash media for nonvolatile project storage.

Before transfer, confirm that the saved project targets 1756-L64/B and review the chassis modules, firmware and RS-232 service path.

Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for 1756-L64 are confirmed during quotation.

  • Confirm that the saved project targets 1756-L64/B before download
  • Keep the 16 MB user-memory requirement separate from the 478 KB I/O-memory allocation
  • Review actual project use before migrating to a smaller or newer controller
  • Use RSLogix 5000 version 16.03.00 or later for 1756-L64/B
  • Record the installed controller firmware and project revision before transfer
  • Confirm the 1756-CP3 cable when local RS-232 service access is required
  • Rockwell Automation lists 1756-L64 as discontinued with a functional-replacement category
  • The current official 1756-L64 product record does not name a successor catalog number
  • Review project conversion, chassis modules and firmware before selecting a newer ControlLogix controller
  • Legacy ControlLogix 5560 applications requiring up to 16 MB of user memory
  • Chassis-based control systems retaining an RS-232 controller-service connection
  • Migration projects that must preserve an archived 1756-L64/B application and chassis inventory
Description
1756-L64 is an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 5560 controller for coordinating machine and process applications in a modular ControlLogix chassis.

The controller executes the Logix application and exchanges control data through separately selected chassis communication modules, allowing its network architecture to be matched to the installed system instead of relying on an integrated industrial network port.

Before replacing the controller, preserve the validated project and confirm the hardware series, supported firmware and Logix software, chassis arrangement, communication modules, network configuration, and existing I/O ownership.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Can Allen-Bradley 1756-L64 accept a project created for an 8 MB controller without conversion?
Do not assume so. Verify the controller catalog selected in the project, firmware revision, memory use, communication modules and all conversion messages before download.
Which programming-software baseline applies to Allen-Bradley 1756-L64/B?
Rockwell Automation specifies RSLogix 5000 version 16.03.00 or later. The actual project and installed firmware must also be compatible.
Is CompactFlash included with Allen-Bradley 1756-L64?
No inclusion should be assumed. The documented 1784-CF128 CompactFlash card is optional, so verify the quotation and the existing stored-image strategy.
Which battery should be checked when servicing Allen-Bradley 1756-L64/B?
Rockwell Automation lists the 1756-BA2 for Series B. Confirm battery condition and preserve an external project archive before removing power.
Can Allen-Bradley 1756-L64 replace 1756-L63 solely because it has more memory?
No. Memory capacity does not establish firmware, project, chassis, communication-module or redundancy compatibility.
What is required for local serial service of Allen-Bradley 1756-L64?
The controller uses an RS-232 service port. Confirm the required 1756-CP3 cable, computer interface and communication settings before commissioning.
How does Allen-Bradley 1756-L64 connect to an EtherNet/IP control network?
Allen-Bradley 1756-L64 does not provide an integrated EtherNet/IP port. Network access is established through a compatible ControlLogix Ethernet communication module installed in the chassis, so its series, firmware, slot assignment and project configuration must be verified.
