Features:
- 12 single-ended, configurable inputs (voltage/current) in a single module; saves rack space and reduces system cost.
- Accommodates power variations, long cable drops, and battery-backed systems; extended operating temperature (-20 to +60°C).
- Per-channel configuration for ±10V, 0-10V, 0-20mA, or 4-20mA; eliminates separate module types for different sensors.
In a typical industrial control system, analog input points are required for pressure, temperature, flow, level, and other process variables. Using conventional 4 or 8-channel modules would consume multiple slots and require additional terminal bases, increasing panel space and cost. The 1794-IE12 consolidates up to 12 signals in one module, freeing rack space for other I/O types. Each channel is single-ended and non-isolated, suitable for applications where field devices share a common ground.
The 1794-IE12 is designed for real-world industrial power conditions. It accepts an external DC supply from 10.0 to 31.2V, including up to 5% AC ripple. This wide range provides several practical advantages. First, it accommodates nominal 12V or 24V systems. Second, it tolerates voltage drop on long cable runs between the power supply and the module – a common issue in distributed I/O installations. Third, it continues to operate even when the supply sags under heavy load or during motor starting. The tolerance for 5% AC ripple means the module will function correctly even if the DC supply has residual ripple from insufficient filtering – a common problem when adding I/O to an existing power supply.
The 1794-IE12 offers exceptional flexibility through per-channel input range configuration. Each of the 12 channels can be independently set for voltage (±10V or 0-10V) or current (0-20mA or 4-20mA). This eliminates the need to stock separate voltage-only and current-only modules, reducing spare parts inventory. The 4-20mA range is essential for industrial transmitters (pressure, temperature, flow) that use live-zero current loops. The 0-20mA range accommodates older or specialized devices. The ±10V range is common for speed references, position feedback, and many analog sensors.
The 1794-IE12 Allen-Bradley I/O Analog Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL)by the manufacturer (OEM).
