Features:
- Bridge Between High-Speed Field Signals and Flex I/O Backplane
- Integrates Dual-Channel Counter Functionality with Flexible Voltage Support
- Functions Alongside All EtherNet-Compatible Programmable Controllers
The Allen-Bradley 1794-VHSC serves as the High-Speed Counter module in a Flex I/O rack, delivering precise counting capabilities for most industrial applications. It continuously processes incoming pulse signals from encoders and sensors at frequencies up to 1MHz and transmits processed data through the rack backplane to all compatible programmable controllers with EtherNet capability. The 1794-VHSC supports 2 input channels with 2 counters per channel, configurable for 3 encoder modes using either 5V DC or 15-24V DC terminations. Seamless integration is standard with the 1794-VHSC, and its isolated outputs provide reliable switching for external devices in automated control systems.
The 1794-VHSC provides essential counting functions critical to motion control and position monitoring applications, directly affecting the accuracy and responsiveness of industrial automation systems. One 1794-VHSC module occupies a single slot in the Flex I/O rack when installed on either the 1794-TB3G or 1794-TB3GS terminal base unit. The 1794-VHSC requires a 24V DC nominal external power supply with an operational range of 19.2-31.2V DC, drawing 100mA at 24V DC.
For applications requiring electrical isolation, the 1794-VHSC incorporates 50V isolation using basic insulation type between 6 isolated areas, tested at 850V DC for 1 second. In addition to standard counting operations, the 1794-VHSC provides 2 isolated outputs organized into 2 groups with electrical ratings of 0.5A at 5V DC and 1.0A at 12-24V DC. The 1794-VHSC output system maintains a leakage current of less than 300μA in the OFF state and a voltage loss of 0.9V DC at rated current. Using this architecture, the 1794-VHSC continually monitors incoming pulse streams and maintains accurate count values. If the system detects signal transitions within the configured voltage thresholds, it will automatically update counter registers and provide real-time feedback to the master controller via the Flexbus, which draws 75mA at 5V DC.
The 1794-VHSC Allen-Bradley Flex I/O High-Speed Counter module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
