Description
Allen-Bradley 1747-SN provides the Remote I/O scanner interface for supported SLC 500 processors.

It scans configured remote racks and devices over the Allen-Bradley Remote I/O network and transfers discrete and, with supported Series B operation, block-transfer data to the SLC processor.

It is used in distributed SLC installations that connect compatible 1746, 1771, FLEX, Block I/O, PanelView, drive and monitoring devices over documented blue-hose cabling.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Can Allen-Bradley 1747-SN replace another Remote I/O scanner without rebuilding the configuration?
Not automatically. Confirm the scanner Series, baud rate, logical-rack addressing, device list, block-transfer requirements and processor project before transferring the existing network.
Which SLC processors can operate with Allen-Bradley 1747-SN?
Rockwell Automation documents the 1747-SN for SLC 5/02 and later processors. Verify the exact processor model, operating-system revision and project requirements before use.
Why can Allen-Bradley 1747-SN show a scanner fault after wiring is transferred?
Check the baud-rate switches, logical-rack addresses, duplicate assignments, blue-hose conductor polarity, shield connection and terminating resistors at the two physical ends of the Remote I/O network.
How should cable length be checked for Allen-Bradley 1747-SN?
Calculate the complete Remote I/O trunk and drop length, then confirm that it remains within the published limit for the selected communication rate.
Can Allen-Bradley 1747-SN use block transfers with every hardware Series?
No. Block transfer is a documented Series B capability and supports transfers of up to 64 words. Also verify that the selected SLC processor and operating-system revision support the required block-transfer method.
What should be recorded before replacing Allen-Bradley 1747-SN?
Record the scanner Series, scanner slot, baud rate, logical-rack assignments and sizes, cable topology, terminating resistors, connected-device revisions and active fault codes.
How should Allen-Bradley 1747-SN be tested after installation?
Confirm that every configured logical rack responds, test discrete I/O and block-transfer data, review scanner status and fault indications, and verify network recovery during a controlled machine sequence.
