More Information

Overview Manuals Message Roles Serial Redirect Diagnostic Signals Product Applications

Features:

  • Dual message roles: Server mode responds to remote requests, while client mode lets PLC logic initiate network exchanges.
  • Legacy media choice: Link-beat detection selects the twisted-pair path, while AUI supports an installed transceiver arrangement.
  • Visible diagnostics: Front-panel indications separate module activity, port traffic, media selection and physical-network faults.
The module identifies an installed CTI or SIMATIC 505 PLC node that must exchange programming, supervisory or peer-to-peer traffic over Ethernet.

Its server, client and serial-routing functions are configured parts of the application, so a hardware match alone does not reconstruct the communication path.

A service decision should preserve the working addresses, message roles and PLC logic before considering an exact spare or a migration project.

Apter Power can help confirm the CTI-Control Technology Inc 2572 hardware identity and documented communication role before quotation.

  • Server operation: Remote devices issue PLC commands carried in TCP/IP packets, and the module returns the PLC response.
  • Client operation: Ladder logic defines what is sent, the destination and the event that initiates the message.
  • Peer communication: A module can operate as both server and client so equipped PLCs exchange data directly.
  • PLC integration: Client communications depend on the assigned PLC words and the installed message logic.
  • Forward path: Configured serial-port data is encapsulated in TCP/IP and sent to a defined network node.
  • Return path: Replies from the destination are routed back to the originating serial port.
  • Engineering access: The module serial ports can serve PLC programming and MMI connections in the documented installation.
  • Configuration boundary: Serial service settings and the network destination must be preserved as one communication path.
  • Module state: The ACTIVE indication provides the first checkpoint for module operation.
  • Traffic direction: TX and RX indications distinguish activity on Ethernet and each serial channel.
  • Media selection: Link Beat and AUI Selected show which Ethernet attachment path the module is using.
  • Physical faults: Collision and Reversed Polarity indications direct attention to the media layer before application changes.
  • PLC programming: Extends Workshop or TISOFT engineering access across an Ethernet connection.
  • Supervisory access: Connects supported MMI or SCADA software with data in an installed PLC.
  • Controller exchange: Enables peer-to-peer reads, writes and event-driven messages between equipped PLC nodes.
  • Serial extension: Routes a configured serial service through TCP/IP to a defined remote destination.
Description
2572 gives a CTI 2500 Series or SIMATIC 505 PLC a path to an Ethernet LAN, allowing programming, data exchange and supervisory control to share one installed communication module.

2572 can answer PLC commands in server mode or initiate TCP/IP messages from PLC logic in client mode, enabling peer-to-peer transfers as well as requests from computers and operator interfaces.

2572 also routes configured serial-port traffic to a defined network node. This matters in legacy service because the working IP settings, PLC word allocation, message logic and serial destination are part of the application, not properties supplied by a replacement board alone.
Alternative Names
CTI-2572
Technical notes
2572 uses its PLC word interface and ladder logic to control client messages, so a powered replacement can remain silent even when Ethernet link indications look normal. Record the IP address, 2WX/6WY allocation, server/client use and any serial-redirect destination before removal; stop commissioning if that application record cannot be reconciled with the installed PLC program.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
The 2572 shows Ethernet link after replacement, but the programming workstation cannot reach the PLC. What should be checked next?
Treat the physical link as only the first checkpoint. Compare the saved IP configuration, server role, PLC word assignment and workstation route with the operating installation before changing hardware again.
The 2572 answers remote requests but no longer initiates a peer-to-peer transfer. What does that difference indicate?
Server operation does not prove that client messaging is configured. Review the ladder instruction, destination address and assigned PLC words that initiate the transfer.
A serial device sends data into the 2572 but receives no reply. Where is the most useful fault boundary?
Start with the configured Serial Redirect destination and service type. Prove that the remote node receives the encapsulated request before changing the local serial device.
When should an installed system keep the AUI connection on the 2572 instead of moving to RJ45?
Keep AUI when the documented network depends on its external transceiver or legacy media path. A connector change becomes a network redesign until the topology and termination are verified.
Can a spare 2572 be connected to the production Ethernet while the operating module remains online?
Only under an isolated or explicitly temporary identity. Reusing the live IP address can create duplicate-node traffic and make the test result unsafe or misleading.
Can a later CTI Ethernet module replace the 2572 without reviewing the application?
No. CTI documents differences for 2572-A affecting serial programming, S7 Send/Receive and email behavior, so those installed functions must be classified before a replacement is selected.
