More Information

Overview Manuals Loop Control Loop Design Terminal Pairing Product Applications

Features:

  • Eight analog outputs: Provides independent 4–20 mA commands for process field devices.
  • Loop supervision: Detects an open field circuit when loop current falls below the published threshold.
  • F4 terminal interface: Supports standard, fused and non-incendive terminal choices for the module family.
Control role: The module translates PAC8000 output data into current-loop signals for connected equipment.

Circuit architecture: Each channel is separated from the Railbus while the field channels share a non-isolated arrangement.

Selection context: Field supply, load resistance and terminal variant determine whether the installed loop can operate as intended.

Apter Power supports sourcing of the Emerson 8104-AO-IP 8-Channel 4–20 mA Analog Output Module with quotations, technical documentation and configuration review.

Important Notice: Other accessories, manuals, cables, calibration data, software, etc. are not included with this equipment unless listed in the above stock item description. All prices are shown in USD.
  • Independent commands: Each output channel sends a separate analog demand to its assigned field device.
  • Open-loop indication: A low-current condition gives technicians a focused starting point when one loop does not respond.
  • Control path: PAC8000 output data passes through the module as a field current command for normal process-control duties.
  • Commissioning value: Channels can be assessed individually to separate a single-loop issue from a module-wide condition.
  • External field power: Connected circuits depend on a separate supply rather than receiving load power from the module.
  • Load margin: Loop resistance and supply voltage work together to determine whether the commanded current can be delivered.
  • Common reference: Non-isolated field channels shape the grounding and segregation plan for connected devices.
  • System separation: Isolation from Railbus keeps the field-circuit boundary distinct from the controller electronics.
  • Key assignment: F4 keying aligns the module with the supported terminal family.
  • Standard option: 8602 provides the basic field termination arrangement.
  • Fused option: 8604 adds channel fuse protection for circuits that require it.
  • Area variants: 8601 and 8603 provide non-incendive choices subject to the complete installation documentation.
  • Valve positioning: Sends current commands to compatible control-valve positioners in PAC8000 systems.
  • Speed and drive reference: Provides 4–20 mA demand signals to equipment designed for current-loop control.
  • Process setpoint output: Interfaces controllers with converters, indicators or remote analog inputs.
  • Legacy system maintenance: Restores an installed eight-channel output position when the F4 terminal and loop design are retained.
Description
Eight independent process commands are converted into 4–20 mA field signals by 8104-AO-IP. The module gives a PAC8000 controller a compact analog-output interface for positioners, converters and other current-loop devices.

The field side of 8104-AO-IP uses single-ended channels and does not provide channel-to-channel isolation. Its external 24 Vdc field supply and connected load therefore need to be planned as part of the complete output circuit.

Terminal selection shapes serviceability as well as area suitability: standard, fused and non-incendive F4 options are available for the module family. Apter Power can help align 8104-AO-IP with the installed terminal and field-loop requirements before quotation.

Technical notes
Loop-power note: 8104-AO-IP does not generate field-circuit power; the connected loops rely on an external 24 Vdc supply, and the eight single-ended channels are not isolated from one another. Apter Power can review load resistance, terminal type and supply arrangement to support stable outputs and avoid an unsuitable replacement.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What should I compare before replacing an installed analog card with 8104-AO-IP?
Compare the module code, F4 terminal type, fuse arrangement, area requirements and external field supply so the replacement matches both the carrier and loop wiring.
Why are the field devices inactive even though 8104-AO-IP is communicating with the controller?
The module supplies the control signal but not the field-circuit power. Review the external 24 Vdc source and loop continuity before assuming an I/O fault.
Can 8104-AO-IP be treated as eight fully isolated current sources?
The channels are isolated from the Railbus but not from one another. Shared reference and field-supply choices should therefore be reviewed for the connected loops.
What does an open-loop indication from 8104-AO-IP mean during commissioning?
The module detects very low loop current around its published threshold. The field wiring, power source, load and terminal connection are the most useful circuit checks.
How can I assess a low 4–20 mA output from 8104-AO-IP under load?
Compare the available field voltage and total loop resistance with the official load capability, then review the terminal and wiring voltage drops.
Which details improve an urgent RFQ for 8104-AO-IP?
Include the installed terminal part number, fused or non-fused requirement, field-supply voltage, connected load and hazardous-area classification.
