Features:
- Runs Series 90-70 control logic on a 96 MHz 80486DX4 processor.
- Combines 512 KB battery-backed RAM with 256 KB user flash memory.
- Provides three serial ports and support for IC66 and IC697 I/O.
IC697CPX772 executes Boolean logic in about 0.4 microseconds while retaining hardware support for floating-point calculations.
Its I/O capacity combines as many as 2K discrete points with up to 8K analog points through the Series 90-70 backplane.
The front switches and indicators expose run state, output enablement, memory protection, and serial activity without opening the rack.
The General Electric IC697CPX772 Series 90-70 Single-Slot CPU may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Program and calculation resources
- Processor Core: The 96 MHz 80486DX4 executes one Boolean function in approximately 0.4 microseconds.
- Working Memory: A 512 KB battery-backed area stores program, configuration, and register data.
- Flash Storage: The CPU adds 256 KB of nonvolatile user flash for retained application content.
- Math Support: Floating-point calculations are handled directly by the processor hardware.
Three independent front ports
- Port 1: An RS-232 interface supports programming attachment or another compatible serial device.
- Port 2: The first RS-485 channel includes optical isolation from the remaining serial circuitry.
- Port 3: A second RS-485 channel is available without the optocoupler isolation used on Port 2.
- Protocol Boundary: The three interfaces operate as SNP slave ports rather than general multi-protocol channels.
Backplane and option-module reach
- Slot Assignment: The single-width CPU is installed in slot 1 of rack 0.
- Bus Format: Exchanges with I/O and smart modules use the rack-mounted VME C.1 backplane.
- Discrete Capacity: Up to 2K input and output points may be arranged in any mix.
- Option Support: LAN, coprocessor, Genius bus, communications, and I/O Link modules can share the system.
Operating-state safeguards
- Mode Switch: Hardware selection covers stop, run with outputs disabled, and run with outputs enabled.
- Memory Key: A remote-programmer keyswitch prevents unauthorized program or configuration changes.
- Password Access: Software passwords add a second control layer around CPU access.
- Status Display: Seven LEDs distinguish processor, run, enable, protection, and serial-port activity states.
