Features:
- Front mounting positions nine Series 90-70 module faces at the equipment rack aisle.
- A standard IC697 backplane supports CPU, I/O, and communication module combinations.
- Rack-number jumpers coordinate the physical chassis with its controller configuration.
IC697CHS791 is intended for installations where operators and maintenance staff need direct access to module indicators, handles, and terminal assemblies.
A 19-inch rack structure supports the chassis from the front, producing a different mechanical and cable-routing arrangement from the rear-panel IC697CHS790.
The rack may join several Series 90-70 system topologies, but its role in an RX7i installation is limited to the supported expansion tier.
After manufacturer End-of-Life (EOL), availability enquiries for General Electric IC697CHS791 Standard Rack, 9 Slots, Front Mount may still be handled by Apter Power.

Supported Chassis Roles
- Series 90-70 hardware: Nine standard positions accept IC697 processors, I/O, communication, and bus-interface modules.
- System topology: Installed interfaces determine whether the chassis functions as a CPU, local expansion, or remote I/O rack.
- RX7i service: The rack can retain compatible Series 90-70 modules and Genius devices as part of an RX7i expansion system.
- Architecture limit: It cannot replace an RX7i main rack or carry RX7i-only power and Ethernet hardware.
Planning Rack-Side Access
- Mounting frame: The chassis attaches at the front of a standard 19-inch equipment rack.
- Working clearance: Space in the service aisle must allow module handles to operate without obstruction.
- Cable routing: Conductors leave the module faces toward the rack front and must not cover indicators or adjacent hardware.
- Support check: Rack rails and fasteners carry the populated chassis load rather than relying on a rear-panel surface.
Supporting the Installed Module Set
- Supply position: A dedicated location on the left side receives the selected Series 90-70 power module.
- Backplane demand: The +5 VDC and ±12 VDC requirements of all nine positions are totalled before a supply is chosen.
- Fan selection: Forced-air assemblies are available when the installed hardware exceeds natural-cooling conditions.
- Hardware suffix: Fan compatibility depends on both the IC697CHS791 revision and the fan-assembly revision.
Matching the Physical Rack Map
- Rack number: Four jumpers behind the power supply encode the identity used by the controller.
- Module order: Each configured position must agree with the hardware fitted to the corresponding 1.6-inch slot.
- Mechanical keys: Key positions are retained during replacement to prevent the wrong module type from entering a slot.
- Startup diagnosis: A rack mismatch is traced by comparing jumper settings, bus order, and the stored slot assignment.
