Features:

  • Supports load sharing and redundant power configurations with up to four compatible multi-purpose power supplies in one PACSystems RX3i Universal Backplane.
  • Provides integrated fault supervision through Power, P/S Fault, Over Temperature, and Overload LEDs, with corresponding fault information available to the CPU.
  • Includes electronic overcurrent shutdown, latched fault operation, input fusible-link backup protection, and configurable input overvoltage protection for dependable industrial power management.
General Electric IC695PSD140 provides the regulated power required by PACSystems RX3i modules in industrial automation installations using an IC695 Universal Backplane. The module converts an external 24 VDC-class source into the voltage levels required by backplane electronics and compatible relay circuits. Support for 5.1 VDC, 3.3 VDC, and 24 VDC relay power allows one supply to address several power requirements within the control platform. Industrial control cabinets can therefore use a centralized module rather than separate internal supplies for every voltage requirement. The arrangement is particularly useful where reliable PLC operation depends on stable distribution of backplane power.

For installations requiring greater power availability, General Electric IC695PSD140 can participate in load-sharing and redundancy configurations. Multiple compatible supplies can operate in one Universal Backplane so that system power is not dependent on a single power supply arrangement. Such capability is valuable in production lines, process control systems, utility installations, and other automation environments where interruption of PLC operation can affect wider plant processes. Fault reporting also gives maintenance personnel a clearer indication of power-related problems. Power, temperature, loading, and supply-failure indications can be evaluated locally while associated faults are made available to the CPU.

General Electric IC695PSD140 also incorporates protection and wiring provisions suited to industrial control-panel maintenance. Electronic current limiting responds to excessive output demand, while shutdown behavior prevents a persistent overload from repeatedly cycling the supply during redundancy operation. A backup fusible link provides additional protection for input-side or internal fault conditions. Field terminals accommodate 14 AWG to 24 AWG conductors, simplifying connection to common industrial DC distribution wiring. Proper polarity, common grounding, and correct handling of the MOV disconnect connection help maintain a dependable RX3i power architecture during normal operation, testing, and servicing.

The IC695PSD140 General Electric Multi-Purpose Power Supply Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Description
The General Electric IC695PSD140 is a multi-purpose power supply module intended for installation in a PACSystems RX3i Universal Backplane using IC695 catalog-number hardware. Operating from an external 18 to 30 VDC source with a nominal rating of 24 VDC, the power supply delivers up to 40 W of total output power. The 5.1 VDC output supports up to 6 A and 30 W, while the 3.3 VDC output supports up to 9 A and 30 W. A +24 VDC relay output is also available for powering circuits on compatible output relay modules. Maximum input power at full load is 60 W, with an inrush current of up to 4 A for 100 ms.

General Electric IC695PSD140 supports both load-sharing and redundancy applications, allowing several power supplies to contribute to backplane power requirements. A single RX3i Universal Backplane can contain up to four IC695PSD140 power supplies, and the module can operate either as the only power source or together with as many as three additional units. Up to four supplies may also be daisy-chained. IC695PSD140 cannot be combined with RX3i IC695PSD040 or IC695PSA040 power supplies for redundant or increased-capacity operation because incompatible combinations may damage equipment.

Operational status on General Electric IC695PSD140 can be checked directly through four front-panel LEDs. The Power LED appears green when power is being delivered to the backplane and amber when input power is present but the supply switch is off. A red P/S Fault indication identifies insufficient backplane voltage caused by a power supply failure. Separate amber Over Temperature and Overload indicators provide advance warning when operating temperature or output loading approaches or exceeds allowable conditions. The PACSystems CPU can detect associated conditions and record Overtemperature, Overload, or P/S Fault events in the CPU Fault Table.

Protection functions within General Electric IC695PSD140 help prevent abnormal loading from affecting the RX3i power system. The 5.1 VDC output is electronically limited to 7 A, while the 3.3 VDC output is limited to 10 A. An overload or short circuit causes the power supply to shut down, and redundancy-oriented operation causes the module to latch off instead of automatically restarting. Cycling input power clears the latched fault. For non-redundant installations where automatic restart may be preferred, an appropriate 0.100-inch-center shunt can be fitted on the rear of the module after removal from the backplane. An internal fusible link provides additional input-line protection if an internal fault occurs.

Field installation of General Electric IC695PSD140 uses terminals for the 24 VDC source, ground, and MOV disconnect connection. Each terminal accepts one 14 AWG to 24 AWG wire, and terminal current is rated at 6 A. When one external DC source feeds multiple RX3i power supplies, connection polarity must remain identical at every power supply and each backplane must connect to a common system ground. The bottom terminal can be jumpered to frame ground to enable input overvoltage protection; the jumper must be removed during a hi-pot test and reinstalled afterward when overvoltage protection is required. Output ripple and noise are each specified at 50 mV, ride-through time is 10 ms, and the power supply provides no isolation.
