Overview Manuals Applications Compatibility Monitoring & Control Installation

Features:

  • Shares 16 MB of reflective SDRAM across a fiber ring.
  • Transfers network data at 2.12 Gbaud.
  • Supports reflective-memory and redundancy-link applications.
Hardware replication makes selected memory available at every configured node without message-by-message application handling.

Dynamic packet sizing and network-error detection support deterministic multi-node transfers.

The module belongs in the RX7i main rack, with grounded ESD precautions used around its optical interface.

  • Provides a high-speed fiber-optic link for data synchronization between primary and backup RX7i CPUs.
  • Enables deterministic, real-time data sharing among PLCs and industrial computers.
  • Connects up to 256 compatible controllers and computing devices through a fiber-optic ring.
  • Compatible with PACSystems RX7i CPUs using firmware version 2.00 or later.
  • Supports VMIC 5565-family reflective-memory devices on fiber-optic networks.
  • Supports a dedicated redundancy link between primary and secondary RX7i controllers.
  • Eight LEDs indicate module, link, controller, data, and optical-signal status.
  • The role switch enables manual transfer from the active controller to the backup unit.
  • Network-error detection, configurable interrupts, and parity monitoring improve reliability.
  • Install the IC698RMX016 only in RX7i main rack 0; slots 3 and 4 are recommended.
  • Switch off rack power before installing, removing, or securing the module.
  • Connect each TX port to the next node’s RX port to complete the fiber-optic ring.
Description
GE IC698RMX016 maintains a common data image across a PACSystems RX7i reflective-memory network. Information written by one node is distributed automatically to the other participating nodes, allowing controllers and compatible computing devices to exchange time-sensitive control data without conventional message polling.

In an RX7i redundant control architecture, the module carries synchronization information between the active and backup controllers. The synchronized data path keeps the secondary controller aligned with the current machine or process state, supporting controlled transfer of operation when the active controller can no longer continue.

The front panel provides separate indications for link condition, local and remote readiness, active-controller state, returned network data, and optical signal detection. A guarded role switch permits a deliberate manual transfer request during redundancy service, while network diagnostics help commissioning personnel confirm communication health.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Why does the IC698RMX016 ring remain open after cabling?
Check transmit-to-receive direction, fiber type, connector cleanliness, node order, powered neighbors, node address, and module status indicators.
Why do IC698RMX016 nodes report duplicate identities?
Inspect every node-address setting and configuration; each active module on the reflective-memory ring needs a unique valid identity.
What should be checked after touching the IC698RMX016 optical housing?
If communication was disturbed by electrostatic discharge, inspect status, use a grounded strap, and power-cycle only under the approved service procedure.
Why does IC698RMX016 memory update only at some nodes?
Trace the ring segment by segment, review error counters and interrupts, confirm address ranges, and verify that all nodes use compatible settings.
Can IC698RMX016 replace a 128 MB memory module directly?
No. The 16 MB address capacity, optical hardware, network configuration, and controller compatibility must match the existing architecture.
What should be archived before replacing IC698RMX016?
Record node address, memory map, interrupt settings, ring order, fiber details, firmware, complete revision, and redundancy configuration.
