Features:
- Eight inputs pair with eight sinking outputs.
- Two inputs count signals at up to 500 kHz.
- Two outputs generate PWM or pulse trains.
Horner HE800HSC600 is the sinking-output member of this SmartStack high-speed counter pair.
Its counter and pulse functions can combine event or speed measurement with timed output control in one module.
The selected HSC option determines register use, so the Cscape setup should follow the required counting method.
The Horner HE800HSC600 SmartStack High-Speed Counter Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Totalizer and PWM: Option 1 combines two 32-bit totalizer or frequency counters with two 16-bit PWM or pulse outputs. This lets measured pulse rate and generated pulse commands share one configured HSC function.
- Latch and Compare: Option 2 adds output latches, preload registers, and separate ON and OFF comparison values to two counters. The controller can therefore react at defined count thresholds without relying only on normal program-scan timing.
- Cam and Diagnostic: Options 3 and 4 provide electronic-cam behavior with combinable output functions, while Option 6 is a hardware diagnostic tool. The diagnostic selection is intended for testing and should not be confused with a production counter mode.
- Voltage Thresholds: The inputs can be configured for zero-crossing, TTL or 5 VDC, 12 VDC, and 24 VDC signal levels. Selecting the correct threshold prevents a valid pulse source from being interpreted with the wrong ON and OFF levels.
- Filter Selection: The 500 kHz, 50 kHz, and 5 kHz filters limit which transitions reach the counter logic. A slower filter can reject unwanted fast edges when the useful signal does not require the module's full bandwidth.
- Pulse Timing: The documented 250 ns minimum pulse width and 500 ns minimum period define the fastest acceptable input waveform. Both the high and low portions of the source signal must remain long enough to be recognized.
- Current Direction: The negative-logic output stage sinks current from the connected load toward the module return. A field device wired for sourcing outputs will not operate correctly with this current path.
- Output Supply: The 5 to 35 VDC operating range lets the sinking stage work with several pulse-output supply levels. The chosen field voltage still has to stay within the connected device's own input range.
- Fast Switching: The manual lists a 0.3 microsecond OFF-to-ON response and a 2 microsecond ON-to-OFF response. These switching times support pulse functions that ordinary millisecond-class digital outputs cannot reproduce.
- Count and Rate: Totalizer and frequency functions can follow accumulated events or calculate how quickly pulses arrive. This supports production counting, rotational speed, and other rate-based control tasks.
- Threshold Actions: Preload, latch, and comparison functions allow output changes to occur at defined count values. They are useful when a machine action must be tied directly to counter position.
- Electronic Cam: The cam options organize several output transitions around a repeating counter cycle. This can coordinate sequence points without expressing every transition as ordinary ladder-logic timing.
