Overview Manuals Battery Data Chassis Fit Service Safety Installation Check

Features:

  • Two independent processor-backup batteries
  • One module per controller chassis
  • Force Enable key control for maintenance
FS-BKM-0001 supports Safety Manager processor memory retention and provides the keyed force-control interface used during authorized maintenance.

Battery condition, polarity and controller diagnostics should be checked before the chassis is returned to service.

Battery polarity, Force Enable status and processor memory diagnostics should be recorded after service so the controller is not returned with an unnoticed backup fault.

The Honeywell FS-BKM-0001 Battery and Key Module is available for quotation and technical support from Apter Power.
Verified resources for FS-BKM-0001:

Battery Data:

  • Two SAFT LS14500CFG cells
  • 3.6 V nominal per cell
  • Lithium thionyl chloride chemistry
Use only the documented battery type and follow the approved replacement interval and disposal procedure.

Chassis Fit:

  • One BKM per chassis
  • Supports both processor memory paths
  • FS coating version must match the project
Confirm the installed chassis hardware revision before exchanging the module.

Service Safety:

  • Turn Force Enable OFF
  • Removing the module clears forces
  • Observe ESD and lithium-battery controls
Record force status and obtain operational authorization before starting maintenance.

Installation Check:

  • Confirm cell polarity
  • Check battery and memory diagnostics
  • Verify key-switch function
Validate the controller application and all affected maintenance indications after installation.
Description
Honeywell FS-BKM-0001 Battery and Key Module is the non-conformal-coated Battery and Key Module used in a Honeywell Safety Manager controller chassis. One module supports both processor paths, including in a redundant controller, and provides the keyed interface used to control authorized forcing operations.

The BKM contains two independent lithium thionyl chloride batteries, one for each processor memory path. Honeywell specifies SAFT LS14500CFG cells rated at 3.6 V and greater than 2 Ah, while the module itself uses the documented 24 V DC supply range of -15% to +30%.

Set Force Enable to OFF before removing the module because active forces are cleared when the BKM is removed. During battery or module service, verify cell type and polarity, processor memory status, battery diagnostics, coating requirement and the integrity of the approved controller application.

Technical notes
FS-BKM-0001 contains two independent 3.6 V lithium batteries for Safety Manager processor memory backup. Set Force Enable to OFF before removal because active forces are cleared when the module is removed.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Why does FS-BKM-0001 use two batteries?
One lithium battery supports each processor memory path, maintaining independent backup for the controller architecture.
Which battery type is specified for FS-BKM-0001?
Honeywell specifies SAFT LS14500CFG lithium thionyl chloride cells rated at 3.6 V and greater than 2 Ah.
Why must Force Enable be OFF before removing FS-BKM-0001?
Removing the BKM clears active forces; placing Force Enable OFF prevents unintended reliance on forced values during maintenance.
How many BKM modules are fitted in a redundant chassis?
One BKM is used per chassis even when the Safety Manager controller processors are redundant.
What should be checked after replacing the batteries?
Verify polarity, processor memory status, battery diagnostics, key-switch operation and that the approved application remains valid.
Can FS-BKM and FC-BKM versions be interchanged?
Only after confirming the project coating requirement; the module function is related, but FC and FS construction must match the approved environment.
Which precautions apply to lithium battery handling?
Follow the site procedure for isolation, electrostatic protection, approved cell type, transport, disposal and local hazardous-area restrictions.
What data is needed to quote FS-BKM-0001?
Provide the exact model, chassis and processor type, coating requirement, installed hardware revision, battery-service scope, quantity and destination.
