Features:
- Converts 4‑20 mA loop current to 1‑5 VDC for voltage‑input analog modules; uses 180Ω series resistor for current limiting per channel.
- Supports two power supplies for high availability; if one supply fails, the other automatically takes over without interruption.
- Works with 3700, 3700A, 3721, and 2770H modules; requires two termination panels per module (16 points each). 3721 range configurable via TriStation.
The 9761-210 termination panel is designed to interface 4‑20 mA loop‑powered transmitters with Triconex analog input modules that accept voltage inputs (0‑5 VDC). Many common field devices – pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, flow meters – output a 4‑20 mA current loop signal. However, some Triconex analog input modules (e.g., 3700A) accept only voltage inputs. The 9761-210 solves this mismatch by providing a precision 250Ω resistor on each input channel. When 4‑20 mA current flows through this resistor, it develops a voltage of 1‑5 VDC (using Ohm’s law: 4 mA × 250Ω = 1 V; 20 mA × 250Ω = 5 V).
The 9761-210 is designed for high‑availability safety systems where loss of field power could cause a spurious trip. The panel accepts two independent 24V DC power sources (typically labeled PS1 and PS2). These sources are diode‑ORed on the positive power terminals. Under normal operation, both power supplies can be active, and the panel draws current from the supply with the higher voltage.
The 9761-210 is specifically designed to work with Triconex 32‑point analog input modules: 3700, 3700A, 3721, and 2770H (HART interface). Since the 9761-210 has only 16 points, two termination panels are required for each 32‑point module – one panel for channels 1‑16 and another for channels 17‑32. The panel comes with two sets of adhesive labels: one labeled 1‑16 and one labeled 17‑32. The user applies the appropriate label to each panel to avoid confusion during wiring and troubleshooting. The 3721 module is configurable via TriStation software for either 0‑5 VDC or ±5 VDC input range.
The 9761-210 Triconex Input Termination Panel may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL)by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD): Captures high-consequence process variables (such as 4–20 mA loop pressure, flow, and level metrics) to instantly trigger automated process isolation or a localized safe-state shutdown when trip thresholds are breached.
- Fire and Gas Systems (F&G): Consolidates telemetry from localized toxic/combustible gas sensors, flame detectors, and optical infrared monitors to coordinate massive plant mitigation protocols.
- Burner Management Systems (BMS): Monitors critical parameters including fuel gas manifold pressure, air-to-fuel ratios, and atomizing steam conditions to guarantee flame safety across heavy utility boilers and industrial process furnaces.
- High-Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS): Deployed across high-pressure upstream oil and gas wellheads or pipeline distribution networks to provide millisecond-level pressure monitoring and avert catastrophic downstream overpressure incidents.
- Functional Safety Standards: Certified for integration within processes up to Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3), in full compliance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 frameworks.
- Nuclear Qualification: Evaluated and approved under strict nuclear directives (including US NRC regulatory guides like RG 1.180), permitting its use in Class 1E safety-related applications within nuclear generating facilities.
- Hazardous Area Ratings: Certified as a Nonincendive terminal assembly, satisfying Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D safety requirements for installation in hazardous industrial atmospheres when properly enclosed.
- Industrial Engineering Compliance: Meets API 670 directives for machinery protection loops and bears the CE Mark for robust electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), ensuring structural resilience against heavy RF and electrical noise.
- DCS/SIS Platforms: Built for seamless electrical matching across legacy and active Tricon v9 through v10 system architectures.
- I/O Module Adaptation: Interfaces with TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) Analog Input Modules that handle 0–5 VDC, non-commoned, differential inputs.
- Signal Translation: The panel houses 16 high-precision, low-drift 250-ohm sensing resistors. These resistors accurately step down standard field 4–20 mA current signals into a clean 0–5 VDC input map required by the core processing modules.
- HART Passthrough Support: Fully interoperable with HART-compatible analog input modules, ensuring real-time device diagnostics and device configuration files pass cleanly from the field transmitter to asset management systems.
