  • Why GE Mark VIe IS220PAICH1A Compatibility Must Be Checked Before Replacement

    内容图1
Replacing a GE Mark VIe IS220PAICH1A is rarely a simple “same connector, same result” decision. The PAIC pack digitizes field analog signals, powers transmitters, and exchanges data with the Mark VIe controller, but its performance depends on the terminal-board circuitry beneath it. Legacy OEM stock is increasingly difficult to locate, and visually similar boards can tempt buyers into an unsafe substitution. A mismatched revision can trigger a board-compatibility alarm, distort analog measurements, disable outputs, or extend a planned outage into an unplanned shutdown. For traders, buyers, and maintenance engineers sourcing GE turbine control spare parts, the purchase order must therefore define both the complete PAIC part number and the approved terminal-board part number. This guide explains which TBAI and STAI terminal boards work with IS220PAICH1A, how their wiring and redundancy differ, and what to verify before an analog I/O pack replacement.
  • GE Mark VIe IS220PAICH1A with Approved TBAI and STAI Terminal Boards

The IS220PAICH1A PAIC is a Mark VIe analog I/O pack that conditions and digitizes ten analog inputs, manages two analog outputs, supplies 24 V dc transmitter power, and communicates over Ethernet with the controller. For hazardous-location applications, GEH-6725R identifies exactly three approved accessory combinations for this H1A pack: IS200STAIH1A, IS200STAIH2A, and IS200TBAIH1C.
That list matters: approval applies to the complete I/O-pack/terminal-board combination, not to any board that happens to accept the D-sub connector. IS200STAIH1A and IS200STAIH2A are compact Simplex boards using Euro-style box-type terminals; H1A has fixed field terminals, while H2A accepts a removable plug. IS200TBAIH1C uses barrier-type blocks and supports either one PAIC in Simplex or three PAICs in TMR.
This is the documented basis for reliable IS220PAICH1A compatibility decisions. When purchasing HazLoc certified terminal boards, confirm the exact suffix on the nameplate and the site’s area-classification documentation—do not rely on a family name such as “STAI” or “TBAI” alone.

IS220PAICH1A Channel Mapping: Why Terminal-Board Accuracy Matters

IS220PAICH1A compatibility is electrical as well as mechanical. The PAIC/terminal-board assembly handles ten analog input channels, but the ranges are not identical across all points. Inputs 1–8 accept −10 to +10 V dc or 0–20 mA dc, while inputs 9–10 accept −5 to +5 V dc or −1 to 20 mA dc. The board also routes transmitter power, returns, shielding, and two 0–20 mA analog outputs. In voltage mode, loop impedance, reference potential, and grounding directly affect accuracy; in current mode, burden resistance, loop power, and return routing become critical. The terminal board adds the suppression, scaling, identification, and signal-routing circuitry the PAIC expects. Earlier TBAIH1A/H1B revisions may physically accept a PAIC, yet their circuit differences prevent full analog accuracy and can produce a compatibility diagnostic. Map every field wire by channel, signal type, polarity, shield, and power source before transfer. That discipline protects calibration and prevents a normal analog I/O pack replacement from becoming a troubleshooting event.

IS220PAICH1A Compatibility Rule: Match the Exact Board, Not the Appearance

The safest conclusion is simple: pair GE Mark VIe IS220PAICH1A only with IS200STAIH1A, IS200STAIH2A, or IS200TBAIH1C, selected for the required topology and terminal style. Do not substitute DTAI, TBAIH2C, or an earlier TBAIH1A/H1B merely because the connector and footprint look familiar. GE’s system guidance states that DTAI and TBAIH2C are not compatible with the PAIC pack, and that earlier TBAIH1 revisions do not deliver full analog accuracy because their circuits differ. A connector that mates proves only mechanical fit; it does not prove channel scaling, isolation, output compliance, terminal identification, or diagnostic compatibility. In turbine control, those differences can cause drifting measurements, board mismatch alarms, failed output checks, nuisance trips, or a startup delay after maintenance. Treat the entire signal path as one engineered assembly: I/O pack hardware revision, terminal-board part number and suffix, control topology, field wiring, power supply, and HazLoc approval must all agree before energization.

IS200STAIH1A and IS200STAIH2A: Compact Simplex STAI Options

The STAI family is the compact choice when the cabinet uses one PAIC signal path. Both IS200STAIH1A and IS200STAIH2A present 48 points through Euro-style box-type terminals and support Simplex service only. IS200STAIH1A has a permanently mounted terminal block, which suits installations where field wiring remains landed during long service intervals. IS200STAIH2A uses a right-angle header for a removable Euro-style plug, making pre-wired replacement and bench preparation easier. Each board accepts one PAIC through its D-type connector and carries an ID device for board recognition. Before ordering, check fixed versus pluggable field terminals, plug availability, carrier dimensions, and the complete H1A/H2A suffix; the two boards are functionally related but not physically identical at the wiring interface.

IS200TBAIH1C is the full-size TBAI option for applications that require robust barrier-type field terminals or TMR architecture. It provides two removable 24-point barrier terminal blocks and three PAIC D-sub connection positions. A Simplex installation uses one pack at JR1; a TMR installation uses three PAIC packs for the R, S, and T signal paths. The board fans each input to the three controllers, while its output circuitry combines the three output drivers for redundant control. This topology makes IS200TBAIH1C the correct choice for many turbine cabinets, but the revision suffix is non-negotiable: specify H1C. Earlier H1A/H1B revisions may mount yet cannot maintain the required analog accuracy. Also verify terminal hardware, spare pack count, and cabinet clearance before shipment.
