Features:
- Plugs directly between a FieldConnex Power Hub and its trunk cable.
- Connects the trunk shield directly to earth through the module grounding arrangement.
- Combines local LED indication with predictive surge-wear diagnostics.
The DE.1 version adds diagnostic electronics to the directly grounded trunk-protection format.
Voltage surges between the two fieldbus conductors and from either conductor to earth are limited inside the pluggable unit.
A removable module and common grounding rail allow one trunk position to be serviced without rerouting neighboring fieldbus cables.
The Pepperl+Fuchs TPH-LBF-IA1.36.DE.1 Fieldbus Surge Protector may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

How excess voltage is diverted
- Conductor pair: The protection network clamps an overvoltage appearing between the fieldbus plus and minus lines.
- Earth path: A separate path limits surges from either fieldbus conductor toward earth.
- Normal traffic: Series elements preserve IEC 61158-2 fieldbus communication during ordinary operation.
- End condition: The device follows line-inoperable mode 3 when surge stress exceeds its protection capability.
Local and remote condition reporting
- Normal state: A flashing green LED confirms that the surge-protection circuit remains serviceable.
- Surge event: A red flash records each detected overvoltage activation.
- Wear warning: Repeated red flashes at power-up show how much surge headroom has been consumed.
- Remote alarm: Supported Advanced Diagnostics hardware passes the maintenance indication to the control-room software.
Trunk connector installation
- Supported position: The unit fits the trunk connector on compatible MBHD-FB or MBHC-FB Power Hub motherboards.
- One per trunk: Each protected trunk connection receives its own surge-protection module.
- Mechanical fixing: Two screws secure the protector and two more secure the replaced trunk connector.
- DART exclusion: Do not combine the DE.1 diagnostic version with an MBHD-FB-D backplane.
Direct shield-earth arrangement
- Shield route: The DE suffix identifies a direct electrical connection from cable shield to earth.
- Support rail: An ACC-LBF-EB rail supports the module and establishes the common earth point.
- Bonding conductor: The rail connects to the enclosure equipotential bonding system with the specified conductor.
- Shared rail: Multiple trunk protectors may use one correctly sized grounding rail on the same Power Hub.
