Features:
- The shielded M12 head interface connects one RFID read/write head to the IDENTControl Compact evaluation unit.
- Two 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet ports use an integrated switch to continue the automation network through the unit.
- Rotary address setting and separate status LEDs provide local commissioning and fault information.
Pepperl+Fuchs IC-KP2-1HB17-2V1D translates controller telegrams received through TCP/IP, PROFINET IO, EtherNet/IP, or MODBUS TCP into commands for the attached read/write head, then returns confirmation and tag data over the selected network service.
The read/write head, Ethernet network, and 20-30 V DC supply use separate M12 connections on IC-KP2-1HB17-2V1D, while the protective-earth screw bonds the metal enclosure to the installation ground.
With IP67 protection and screw mounting, IC-KP2-1HB17-2V1D can be installed in the field when the specified connectors, grounding path, and ambient limits are maintained.
The Pepperl+Fuchs IC-KP2-1HB17-2V1D IDENTControl Compact RFID Evaluation Unit may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Following an RFID transaction through the unit
- Controller request: The selected Ethernet protocol carries an identification command to the evaluation unit.
- Head connection: The shielded M12 port forwards the command to the single connected read/write head.
- Tag exchange: The head reads or writes the data carrier and returns its status and data.
- Network response: The evaluation unit sends confirmation and response data back to the controller.
Matching the network service to the host controller
- PROFINET IO: Cyclic controller communication uses the device as a PROFINET IO station.
- EtherNet/IP: Assembly objects carry command and response data for an EtherNet/IP scanner.
- MODBUS TCP: Holding-register transactions move commands and returned tag data.
- TCP/IP: Port 10000 provides direct telegram communication when the host application uses the native command format.
Setting the node and reading its operating state
- Rotary switch: The switch establishes the documented address setting before commissioning.
- Link/Traffic LEDs: Green confirms a network link while yellow follows transmitted data.
- CH1 LED: Green identifies a detected head and red marks a configuration error.
- PWR/ERR LED: Green indicates power, yellow identifies startup, and red identifies a PROFINET bus fault.
Completing the field installation
- Supply path: A 20–30 V DC PELV source enters through the M12 power connector.
- Grounding: The M4 protective-earth screw bonds the aluminum housing to the installation ground.
- Field connections: Shielded M12 interfaces separate the RFID head, Ethernet, and power wiring.
- Environmental seal: IP67 protection applies when the specified connectors and installation limits are maintained.
