More Information

Overview Manuals Specifications PA Interface Power & Bus Diagnostics

Features:

  • PROFIBUS PA to EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP/IP link
  • Up to 32 PROFIBUS PA slave devices
  • Up to 2 kilobytes of device and status data
The A-PAL/B combines a PROFIBUS PA Master, Ethernet gateway, and isolated segment power conditioner in one Series B module. Up to thirty-two PA slave devices can be connected within the documented current limit.

DPV0 exchange, DPV1 Class 1 and Class 2 messaging, alarms, and optional Active/Standby Master redundancy are supported. EtherNet/IP or Modbus communication carries selected PA device and status data to the host system.

Available conditioner current decreases as ambient temperature rises, so the field-device load must be calculated before installation. Addressing, spur wiring, internal termination, overcurrent trip, redundancy, and FDT asset-management requirements should be reviewed together.
PA segment sizing, official documents, and quotations for the ProSoft A-PAL/B PROFIBUS PA Gateway are available through Apter Power.

Description
The A-PAL/B is a ProSoft PA Link Series B gateway that interfaces PROFIBUS PA DPV0 and DPV1 with EtherNet/IP or Modbus devices. In Master operation it can exchange as much as two kilobytes of PROFIBUS PA device and status data. The PA network supports up to thirty-two slave devices. Two Ethernet ports provide Linear or Device Level Ring topology and can also be configured for port mirroring during fault analysis.

The A-PAL/B contains an isolated PROFIBUS PA power conditioner that can supply as much as 420 mA when temperature limits permit. The overcurrent trip level is configurable, and the internal 100-ohm Fieldbus terminator can be enabled through software. DPV0 data exchange, DPV1 Class 1 messaging, DPV1 Class 2 messaging, and DPV1 alarming are supported. Active/Standby PROFIBUS PA Master redundancy and FDT asset management with an available DTM are also supported.

The A-PAL/B uses Slate Configuration Utility to define the PA module, Ethernet connections, controllers, and field devices. The utility can capture PROFIBUS PA packets from the running Fieldbus for bus-behavior analysis. Global and device-specific statistics, a non-volatile event log, and NTP time synchronization provide additional fault-finding context. The 22 to 26 VDC gateway is rated for -20 to 70 °C operation, with available PA conditioner current reduced at higher ambient temperatures.
