Features:
- Two Pt100 inputs extend an ET 200X station with distributed resistance-temperature measurement.
- Each channel supports two-, three- or four-wire sensor circuits through the documented M12 connections.
- Wire-break, overrange, underrange and limit diagnostics identify measurement-path faults by channel.
The EM 144 converts resistance changes into controller values while keeping the sensor wiring in the field-mounted I/O node.
Selectable integration aligns conversion with 50 or 60 Hz interference suppression on the shielded measurement cable.
Connector sealing and channel parameterization need to be preserved together when the module is exchanged.
The Siemens 6ES7144-1JB31-0XB0 ET 200X EM 144 AI 2 RTD Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Pt100 lead arrangements
- Two-wire circuit: Both lead resistances remain in the measurement path and must be considered in the configured result.
- Three-wire circuit: The matched third lead supports compensation according to the documented terminal assignment.
- Four-wire circuit: Separate source and sense leads remove the connecting lead resistance from the measured element path.
- Connector boundary: The field sensor circuits enter through the specified 4/5-pin M12 connectors.
Turning Pt100 resistance into controller data
- Excitation: The module applies a typical 1.5 mA measuring current to the resistance-type transmitter.
- Linearization: Parameterizable Pt100 linearization converts resistance to the assigned temperature value.
- Digital format: Values are available in S7 or S5 format with 12 bits plus sign.
- Noise rejection: Integration of 16.7 or 20 ms corresponds to 60 or 50 Hz interference suppression.
What the channel diagnostics report
- Lead failure: Wire-break detection identifies an open Pt100 measurement circuit.
- Range state: Overflow and underflow messages show when the converted value exceeds its range.
- Limit events: Upper and lower limit alarms are assigned separately by channel.
- Module indication: The red group-error LED summarizes a diagnostic condition at the module.
Installation details tied to the field enclosure
- Ingress protection: IP66/IP67 depends on intact housing, seals and correctly tightened field connectors.
- Cable run: The shielded RTD cable length is limited to 30 m.
- Module width: The expansion-module body occupies the documented 60 mm module width within the ET 200X assembly.
- Sensor boundary: Keep the shield and connector routing separate from interference sources that can disturb resistance measurement.
