Features:
- The station can execute a local user program.
- The integrated interface supports MPI communication.
- A separate DP-master module can extend the station.
The local I/O of 6ES7151-7AA11-0AB0 is addressed by its CPU. It is not automatically exposed to the higher-level DP master as direct peripheral addresses.
An MMC supplies the load-memory medium for 6ES7151-7AA11-0AB0. Internal working memory and the removable load-memory medium perform different roles during program execution.
Communication settings distinguish an active MPI participant from passive operation for 6ES7151-7AA11-0AB0. Engineering access depends on the configured operating arrangement, not solely on connecting a programming cable.
The Siemens 6ES7151-7AA11-0AB0 IM 151-7 CPU Interface Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Assign station I/O without confusing DP exchange areas
- Slot allocation: Local digital modules occupy their allocated address space even when not every channel is used.
- Analog allocation: Analog modules reserve their own address space rather than sharing unused digital bits.
- User addresses: User-defined start addresses are assigned at byte boundaries.
- Process image: Addresses outside the process image require the corresponding peripheral access in the user program.
Follow the reported event to its diagnostic record
- Group fault: The SF indicator signals a group fault rather than a unique fault code.
- Event detail: The diagnostic buffer records information that distinguishes individual events.
- DP perspective: The master uses its configured diagnostic address to obtain slave diagnostic information.
- Program response: The relevant error organization block determines the programmed reaction to a supported fault event.
Different memory areas respond differently to power loss
- Load contents: The MMC retains the stored load-memory contents without an external backup battery.
- Working data: Retentive working data is backed up through the CPU memory mechanism.
- Configurable areas: Retention of markers, timers and counters depends on their configuration.
- CPU information: The diagnostic buffer and MPI address are retained separately from ordinary non-retentive user data.
Distinguish a stopped slave from a stopped master
- Slave STOP: When the CPU slave enters STOP, the outgoing transfer-area data supplied to the master is set to zero.
- Master STOP: When the DP master enters STOP, the slave input transfer-area data retains its last values.
- Local program: These exchange-area reactions are distinct from normal execution of the local user program.
- Direction check: The two STOP cases must not be described as a single rule that clears every communication value.
