Features:
- Eight controller words become isolated voltage or current signals for field loads.
- Backplane power, 24 V analog power, and the external enable feed different module sections.
- Connector assignment, load resistance, addressing, and digital representation define each output path.
The S5 CPU writes a digital channel value through the backplane.
The selected output circuit converts that value into the wired voltage or current signal.
Enable state and field load determine whether the commanded value reaches the actuator.
The Siemens 6ES5470-4UC13 S5 Eight-Channel Analog Output Module may remain available for quotation and support beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Relating the controller word to the field signal
- Digital scale: A 12-bit two’s-complement value represents the commanded output.
- Voltage path: The assigned channel produces 1 to 5 V at its voltage terminals.
- Current path: The corresponding current terminals produce 4 to 20 mA.
- Overrange: The module permits the documented margin beyond the normal 0 to 1024 representation.
Feeding separate digital and analog sections
- Backplane supply: The S5 rack provides the 5 V digital electronics supply.
- Analog supply: A 24 V source powers the field-output conversion circuits.
- Enable input: A separate 24 V path permits or removes module output operation.
- Common paths: The connector assignment keeps field returns and rack references in their defined circuits.
Keeping each signal inside its load boundary
- Voltage load: The connected resistance remains at or above 3.3 kΩ.
- Current load: Total loop resistance remains at or below 300 Ω.
- Unused terminals: Jumpers and return wiring follow the documented voltage or current arrangement.
- Settling: The load and cable allow the output to reach its commanded value within 5 ms.
Connecting the physical module with the CPU address map
- Address switch: The hardware setting assigns the module start address in the rack.
- Channel order: Successive channel words follow the documented output sequence.
- Program test: Each written value is compared with its measured voltage or loop current.
- Fault separation: Enable, supply, data word, connector, load, and actuator are checked in that order.
