Features:

  • Complete Channel-to-Channel Isolation
  • Integrated HART Pass-Through Communication
  • Built-in Loop Power Supply for 2-Wire Transmitters
The YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 provides 1500V AC isolation between each input channel and the system bus. This eliminates ground loop interference and cross-channel crosstalk, making it the preferred choice for applications where sensors are located far apart or powered from different sources.

Unlike conventional analog cards that only read 4-20 mA loops, the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 superimposes HART digital communication on the same two wires. This allows the DCS to retrieve up to 32 HART variables per module, including device status, calibration data, and secondary process values, without additional hardware.

The YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 supplies a regulated 19.0V (minimum at 20 mA) directly to each connected 2-wire transmitter. This eliminates the need for external power supplies or separate power conditioners, reducing panel wiring complexity and total installed cost.

The AAI143-H53 S1 YOKOGAWA 16-Channel Isolated Analog Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

  • Extended Temperature Range – The -H53 variant operates from -20°C to +70°C, suitable for unheated cabinets in cold climates or solar-radiated enclosures in desert regions.
  • Corrosive Atmosphere Protection – Certified to ISA Standard G3, the module resists damage from H₂S, SO₂, Cl₂, and NOx commonly found in pulp mills, wastewater treatment, and refinery flare areas.
  • Electrical Noise Immunity – With 1500V AC isolation between field inputs and the system, the module rejects common-mode interference from variable frequency drives and large motor starters.
  • Storage & Transport – Non-operating storage range from -40°C to +85°C allows the spare module to be kept in remote warehouses or mobile service trucks without degradation.
  • High Measurement Accuracy – ±16 μA precision ensures that a 4-20 mA signal representing a full-scale 1000 psi range is resolved to within approximately 1 psi, critical for custody transfer and quality control.
  • Rapid 10 ms Update Rate – The 10 ms data update per channel allows the module to track fast process transients, such as surge events in centrifugal compressors or rapid pressure changes in hydraulic systems.
  • Low Lifecycle Power Consumption – Consuming only 230 mA from the 5V rail and 540 mA from the 24V rail, the module reduces heat generation inside the node unit, improving long-term reliability of adjacent cards.
  • Self-Diagnostic & Drift Compensation – Ambient temperature drift of just ±16 μA per 10°C minimizes seasonal recalibration needs. Combined with HART device status alerts, the module supports condition-based rather than scheduled maintenance.
  • Oil & Gas Refineries – Monitor pressure, temperature, and flow from distributed smart transmitters across atmospheric and vacuum distillation units, leveraging HART data for predictive maintenance.
  • Petrochemical Complexes – Provide isolated analog inputs for reactors and separators where ground potential differences between equipment require channel-to-channel isolation.
  • Thermal & Combined-Cycle Power Plants – Read steam and feedwater flow signals while simultaneously capturing valve positioner diagnostics without additional I/O cards.
  • Chemical Batch Processing – Configure individual channels for either 2-wire (loop-powered) or 4-wire (externally powered) transmitters, adapting to mixed instrument inventories on the same module.
Description
The YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 provides 16 fully isolated input channels for standard 4-20 mA analog signals, making it an ideal solution for large-scale process monitoring in refinery, petrochemical, and power generation applications. Its non-isolated counterparts cannot match the channel-to-channel isolation that this module offers, ensuring signal integrity even in electrically noisy environments.

Unlike standard analog input cards, the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 integrates a built-in HART modem, enabling simultaneous transmission of primary analog values and secondary HART variables (such as device temperature or diagnostics) from smart transmitters. This feature allows operators to access valve positioners and pressure transmitters' digital data without additional wiring or external multiplexers.

Engineered for mission-critical processes, the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 supports dual-redundant configurations by installing two identical modules in adjacent slots. In the event of a primary module failure, the system automatically switches to the standby unit with minimal disruption, providing continuous loop-powered transmitter support with a built-in 19.0V minimum supply at 20 mA.

Manufactured with the optional ISA Standard G3 coating (suffix "3"), the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 withstands harsh industrial atmospheres containing corrosive gases such as H₂S and SO₂. It operates reliably across a wide temperature range from -20°C to +70°C, ensuring stable performance in outdoor cabinets or non-air-conditioned shelters.

Technical notes
The YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 delivers 16 isolated 4-20 mA inputs with an input resistance varying from 270Ω at 20 mA to 350Ω at 4 mA. Please ensure that when using HART communication with this module, the ER bus node unit's EB401 firmware is revision 2 or later, and note that HART communication doubles the analog data refresh cycle time compared to operation without HART.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What DCS systems is the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 compatible with?
The module is designed for Yokogawa CENTUM VP and CS 3000 R3/CS 1000 systems, specifically for FCS nodes such as AFV30, AFV40, AFS30, AFS40, and AFG series. It cannot be used with older non-FIO architectures.
Can two-wire and four-wire transmitters be used simultaneously on the same YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 module?
Yes. Each of the 16 channels has an individual setting pin that allows you to configure whether the internal loop power supply is enabled (for 2-wire transmitters) or disabled (for 4-wire transmitters). This gives you maximum wiring flexibility per loop.
What happens to the input resistance when the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 is powered off?
In a power-off or module failure state, the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 presents a high impedance of 500 kΩ or greater. This prevents loop current from being shunted away, allowing a redundant module or a maintenance bypass to continue reading the transmitter signal without interruption.
Is the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 approved for use in hazardous (explosive) areas?
The -H53 suffix indicates "with no explosion protection." Therefore, the module itself is not intrinsically safe. However, it can be used in hazardous areas when connected through an external isolation barrier. Do not connect a Zener barrier directly to this module.
How does the YOKOGAWA AAI143-H53 S1 behave during a dual-redundant switchover?
When configured in a redundant pair (adjacent odd/even slots), the standby module continuously tracks the active module. Upon failure detection, switchover occurs automatically. The field loop sees no open circuit because the powered-off module's input resistance remains high, allowing the new active module to take over seamlessly.
