Overview Manuals Specifications Configuration Safety & Compliance Applications

Features:

  • Full Channel-to-Channel Isolation
  • Multi-Type Thermocouple & mV Support
  • Built-in Burn-out Detection
The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 provides 200 V AC isolation between input channels and 500 V AC between input and system. This eliminates cross-talk and ground loop errors, making it ideal for applications where multiple thermocouples share the same cable tray or junction box without signal interference.

With support for 8 thermocouple types (J, K, E, B, R, S, T, N) and two millivolt ranges, the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 adapts to virtually any temperature sensor. Each channel can be individually configured via software, reducing spare part inventory and simplifying field upgrades.

The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 includes programmable burn-out detection that forces the input either UP-scale or DOWN-scale when a sensor break is detected. With a fixed 60-second detection time, this feature provides fail-safe behavior for critical control loops, alerting operators immediately to wiring or sensor failures.

The AAT145-S53 S1 YOKOGAWA  TC/mV Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

  • Software Channel Configuration: Each channel of the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 can be individually assigned as TC or mV input using the FCS engineering software (LHS5100). No hardware jumpers or DIP switches are required.
  • Global Burn-out Setting: Burn-out detection direction (UP or DOWN) is configured globally for all 16 channels simultaneously on the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 – per-channel settings are not available. Detection time is fixed at 60 seconds.
  • Compatible FCS Models: The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 runs on AFV30, AFV40, AFV10, AFS30, AFS40, AFG30, AFG40, AFG8, and AFF50 series Field Control Stations. Confirm your FCS model before ordering.
  • Dual-Redundant Setup: To configure redundancy for the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1, install two identical modules in adjacent odd-numbered and even-numbered slots on the same node unit. The system automatically handles switchover without user programming.
  • Channel-to-Channel Isolation: The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 is tested at 200 V AC for 1 minute between input channels, preventing fault propagation from one sensor to another in high-voltage environments.
  • System Isolation: With 500 V AC (1500 V AC for single-card use) isolation between field inputs and the system backplane, the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 protects the controller from field wiring faults and surges.
  • Corrosion Protection (ISA G3): The "3" suffix code qualifies the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 for installation in environments with moderate levels of airborne contaminants (e.g., chemical plants), as defined by ISA Standard G3.
  • No Explosion Protection: The "5" suffix indicates that the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 does not include intrinsic safety barriers. For Zone 1/2 hazardous locations, an external isolation barrier must be installed between the field device and the module.
  • Oil & Gas Refineries: Monitor reactor and distillation column temperatures using direct thermocouple inputs. The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 provides isolated channels to prevent ground loops in large plants with long wiring runs.
  • Chemical & Petrochemical Plants: Measure exothermic reaction temperatures with Type K or J thermocouples. The built-in burn-out detection of the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 ensures fail-safe operation when sensors fail.
  • Power Generation: Track boiler flue gas temperatures and turbine inlet conditions. With ISA G3 corrosion protection, the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 withstands harsh environments containing sulfur and moisture.
  • Steel & Metal Processing: Monitor furnace zones and heat treatment processes using Type B, R, or S thermocouples at high temperatures. The 16-channel density of the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 reduces cabinet space requirements.
Description
The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 provides true channel-to-channel isolation (withstanding voltage of 200 V AC between channels and 500 V AC to system). This design guarantees signal integrity by preventing ground loops and electrical noise from affecting measurement accuracy. Its ±40 μV accuracy ensures reliable data for critical control loops, even in electrically noisy industrial environments.

Designed for maximum flexibility, the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 supports all standard thermocouple types (J, K, E, B, R, S, T, N) as well as two millivolt ranges. Each channel can be individually configured for TC or mV input via software, allowing the same module to handle diverse temperature sensors without additional hardware changes. The module also features built-in burn-out detection (UP/DOWN, 60s detection time) for fail-safe operation.

Built for demanding industrial applications, the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 consumes only 350 mA at 5 V DC and weighs just 0.3 kg, making it energy-efficient and easy to install. It supports dual-redundant configurations for mission-critical processes, and the "3" suffix code adds ISA Standard G3 corrosion protection and an extended operating temperature range (-20 to 70°C). External connection is made via dedicated KS1 cable for reliable field wiring.

Technical notes
The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 requires a non-ground type thermocouple when multiple channels are used; using grounded thermocouples may cause temperature errors due to multi-point grounding. For the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1, burn-out detection must be configured globally for all channels (UP or DOWN), and the detection time is fixed at 60 seconds.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What types of sensors can I connect directly to the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 without external signal conditioners?
The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 accepts direct connections from 8 types of thermocouples (J, K, E, B, R, S, T, N) and millivolt sources. However, it does NOT support RTD sensors – for RTD inputs, please use the YOKOGAWA AAR145 module.
Why am I seeing temperature measurement errors when using multiple grounded thermocouples with the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1?
The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 is an isolated channel module, and the official documentation specifies that you must use non-ground type thermocouples. Using grounded thermocouples on multiple channels can create multi-point ground loops, leading to temperature errors. Switch to insulated or ungrounded thermocouples to solve this issue.
Can the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 be used in a dual-redundant configuration for critical processes?
Yes, the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 fully supports dual-redundant configurations. Simply install two identical modules in adjacent odd/even slots on the same node unit. This ensures bumpless switchover if the primary module fails, maintaining continuous operation for safety-critical applications.
How does the YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 handle sensor break detection, and can I configure it per channel?
The YOKOGAWA AAT145-S53 S1 provides burn-out detection that forces the input to either UP-scale or DOWN-scale when a sensor break occurs. However, note that this setting applies globally to all 16 channels together – you cannot configure burn-out direction per channel. The detection time is fixed at 60 seconds.
