Features:
- Enables reliable data transfer between I/O modules and Field Control Units.
- Provides high availability with two modules in ANB10D nodes.
- Accommodates up to 8 I/O modules per node unit for field signals.
The SB401-10 serves as the communication interface between field I/O modules and the Field Control Unit (FCU) via the ESB bus. Installed in ESB Bus Node Units (ANB10S or ANB10D), the SB401-10 enables seamless data transfer of analog and contact I/O signals. The module requires ESB Bus Coupler Modules (EC401 or EC402) installed in slots 7 and 8 of the FCU to establish the communication link. The SB401-10 ensures high-speed, reliable communication essential for real-time process control in Yokogawa CENTUM VP DCS systems.
The SB401-10 supports dual-redundant configuration by installing two modules in the node unit. This redundancy ensures continued operation if one SB401-10 module fails, preventing single points of failure and maximizing system availability. The ANB10D (Dual-Redundant ESB Bus) node unit is specifically designed for this configuration. The SB401-10 also supports single configuration in ANB10S nodes for non-critical applications. This flexibility makes the SB401-10 suitable for both standard and high-availability applications.
Each SB401-10 in an ANB10 node unit supports up to 8 I/O modules, enabling efficient use of cabinet space. The module supports connection of up to 13 node units per FCU (for AFV30/AFV40) or 8 node units (for A2FV50/A2FV70), providing scalability for systems ranging from small to large process control applications. The node unit weighs approximately 10 kg when fully populated with 8 I/O modules and mounts in a standard 19-inch rack. Installation limitations apply when using modules with built-in barriers, requiring insulating partitions.
The SB401-10 YOKOGAWA Interface Slave Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Remote I/O Data Consolidation: Installed in Distributed Control System (DCS) cabinets to aggregate massive data streams coming from field transmitters (analog inputs, digital inputs, thermocouple matrices).
- Petrochemical & Oil Refining Plants: Manages long-distance distributed communication networks across large industrial complexes, ensuring real-time process monitoring of distillation columns, tank farms, and cracking units.
- Power Generation Facilities: Connects the turbine/boiler control room to distributed sensor nodes placed throughout the facility under demanding, continuous operation.
- Functional Safety Standards: While it is a standard DCS control component, it is fully qualified to work alongside Yokogawa's TÜV-certified ProSafe-RS Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) to satisfy up to SIL 3 safety integrity loops.
- Explosion & Hazardous Location Protections: The base model suffix dictates its zoning rules; when selected with specific explosion-proof configurations, it meets ATEX, IECEx, and FM (Factory Mutual) Class I, Division 2 guidelines for safe operation in the presence of hazardous gases.
- Environmental & Stress Resilience: Certified to pass strict industrial vibration and seismic shock thresholds (withstanding continuous accelerations of up to 4.9 m/s²) and strong electromagnetic field interference rules (up to 10 V/m).
- System & Controller Compatibility: Natively compatible with CENTUM VP and CENTUM CS 3000 architectures. It interfaces directly with central master-side modules like the EC401 / EC402 ESB Bus Coupler Modules housed on the primary FCU backplane.
- Node Unit Mounting: Plugs into the designated left-hand communication slots of Models ANB10S (Single) and ANB10D (Duplex) ESB Bus Node Units.
- Dual-Redundant Interoperability: Designed for native hot-standby operations. When twin SB401-10 units are paired inside an ANB10D rack, they split communication lines over Bus 1 (odd slot) and Bus 2 (even slot). If one path breaks, the slave logic switches instantly to the other line without losing active control registers.
