More Information

Overview Manuals Contact Application Load Protection Installation Application
  • Provides eight normally open relay outputs arranged as four isolated pairs
  • Switches documented low-current AC or DC resistive loads through Form A contacts
  • Uses the 1771-WD wiring arm and requires external protection for unsuitable load transients

1771-OZL is an Allen-Bradley isolated-contact output module for low-current field circuits.

Each pair of relay points shares a common while remaining isolated from the other groups, allowing separate field circuits within the documented contact limits.

Confirm the load type, minimum current, common grouping and external suppression before transferring wiring to a replacement 1771-WD arm.

Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for 1771-OZL are confirmed during quotation.

  • The module provides normally open Form A relay contacts
  • Outputs are organized as four pairs with one common per pair
  • Use the contacts only with the documented resistive-load application
  • Keep each output within the documented continuous-current limit
  • Do not connect output points in parallel
  • Provide application-appropriate external circuit protection before energizing field power
  • Match the original rack, group, slot, and output-image assignment
  • Transfer each load and group common to the corresponding terminal
  • Verify field voltage, polarity where applicable, and load type before startup
  • Low-energy resistive AC/DC load switching
  • Isolated annunciator and indication circuits
  • Legacy 24 V on/off control with paired commons
Description
1771-OZL is an Allen-Bradley relay output module that provides eight normally open, dry-reed contact outputs for compatible PLC-5 and 1771 I/O control systems.

The outputs are arranged as four groups of two and switch supported 0–24 V AC or DC field circuits. Because the relay contacts form dry circuits, an open output does not produce the leakage current associated with solid-state outputs.

Its hermetically sealed dry-reed relays provide fast switching and are intended for low-voltage, low-power resistive loads. Front-panel indicators show the controller-side status of the individual output relay coils.

Before installation or replacement, confirm the chassis and slot configuration, field-wiring arm, output grouping and commons, load voltage and current, resistive-load suitability, surge suppression, wiring route, backplane capacity, and existing output-image assignments.

Technical notes
1771-OZL is intended for resistive loads with paired commons; confirm field-voltage compatibility and output-image mapping, because reactive or paralleled loads exceed its documented application.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Is 1771-OZL a direct replacement for a solid-state 1771 output module?
Not automatically. Compare relay-contact behavior, switching speed, paired commons, field voltage, load type, current, terminal assignments, output-image mapping, and any required external protection before substitution.
Can 1771-OZL operate solenoids or other inductive loads directly?
The official technical data limits this module to resistive loads. Use a separately engineered interposing device when the field load is inductive or capacitive rather than connecting it directly.
Can two outputs of 1771-OZL be wired in parallel for more current?
No. Rockwell Automation specifically states that the outputs must not be connected in parallel; keep each point within its documented current limit.
Can existing field wiring be moved directly from another output module to 1771-OZL?
Transfer wiring only after comparing the terminal layout, four paired commons, resistive-load requirement, field supply, current, and output-image assignment; a wire-for-wire move may not be valid.
Is 1771-OZL isolated from the PLC logic circuitry?
Yes. The relay contact output section is isolated from the module logic, but load wiring must still follow the documented group-common and voltage rules.
What should be recorded before replacing 1771-OZL?
Record the rack, group, slot, output-image assignment, each load connection, all four commons, field voltage, current, external protection, and proof that the loads are resistive.
Why might a load remain off after replacing 1771-OZL?
Check the pair's common connection, field supply, output-image bit, terminal assignment, resistive-load current, relay contact continuity, and whether the replacement occupies the original chassis slot.
