Overview Manuals Specifications Network Setup Chassis Setup Product Applications

Features:

  • Network interface: one 10/100 Mbps EtherNet/IP port
  • Topology: official support for star and tree layouts
  • Station power: integrated POINTBus supply for connected I/O modules
1734-AENT is the single-port EtherNet/IP entry point for a POINT I/O node.

Its chassis-size configuration and backplane-current budget link network setup directly to the physical module layout.

The single-port boundary should be preserved when comparing it with a dual-port adapter.

Availability of 1734-AENT is subject to Apter Power inventory and sourcing confirmation.

Commission the single-port node

  • Address method: document the selected thumbwheel or network process.
  • Link: verify speed, duplex, cable, and switch port.
  • Topology: connect the adapter in a star or tree layout.
  • Indicators: record module, network, POINTBus, and power states.

Match the physical station

  • Chassis size: count the adapter plus every installed I/O module.
  • Current budget: total POINTBus demand before adding modules.
  • Expansion power: segment the station when capacity is exceeded.
  • Controller record: keep the module layout aligned with the project.

Supported product applications

  • Star networks: connect a POINT I/O station through an industrial switch.
  • Tree networks: integrate remote I/O within a hierarchical Ethernet layout.
  • Compact machines: combine EtherNet/IP access and POINTBus power.
  • Station replacement: restore a documented single-port adapter position.
Description
1734-AENT connects a POINT I/O station to EtherNet/IP through one RJ45 port. Rockwell Automation supports 10/100 Mbps half- or full-duplex communication and star or tree topologies for this single-port adapter.

The integrated supply in 1734-AENT provides POINTBus power to modules on its right. Chassis size must equal the adapter plus the installed I/O slots, and expansion power supplies are required when module count or current demand exceeds the available backplane capacity.

A Series C 1734-AENT can be commissioned by thumbwheel or supported network-address methods, followed by chassis-size and controller connection checks. Its one-port architecture does not provide the embedded-switch, linear, or ring functions of the dual-port catalog.

Technical notes
The main integration risk for 1734-AENT is designing a two-port or ring network around a single-port adapter. Confirm Series C, one RJ45 path, star or tree topology, IP-address method, chassis size, controller connection plan, POINTBus current budget, field power, supported firmware, and status indicators before placing the station in service.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
How should the chassis size of 1734-AENT be calculated after an I/O module is added?
Set it to one slot for the adapter plus one slot for every installed POINT I/O module, then confirm the controller project matches.
Why is 1734-AENT unsuitable for a native device-level ring connection?
It has one Ethernet port and officially supports star and tree topologies, so it cannot provide the two-port embedded-switch path required for a ring.
What should be checked when 1734-AENT has system power but no POINTBus communication?
Review POINTBus status, module seating, backplane current demand, expansion-power placement, chassis size, and the first module to the right of the adapter.
How can an IP-address conflict involving 1734-AENT be resolved safely?
Isolate the station as required, verify thumbwheel and saved network settings, identify the duplicate address, assign the approved address, and document the change.
Which firmware boundary matters when replacing 1734-AENT in an existing controller project?
Match the Series C hardware and supported firmware to the project module definition and Rockwell compatibility record before downloading or enabling connections.
How can 1734-AENT support more modules when its POINTBus current is exhausted?
Use supported expansion power supplies and recalculate current by segment; do not add modules solely because the chassis-size limit permits them.
