More Information

Overview Manuals Specifications Power Partitioning Mixed-Voltage Wiring Product Applications

Features:

  • Power boundary: interrupts the upstream field-power bus
  • Voltage flexibility: starts documented AC or DC field-power segments
  • Data continuity: POINTBus communication and current pass through unchanged
1734-FPD is a segmentation device for field potential, not a source of additional backplane capacity.

Its main value is the ability to place different power domains inside one continuous POINT I/O station while preserving the data path.

Clear terminal, neutral or common, grounding, and protection records are essential because the module has no local indicators.

Availability of 1734-FPD is subject to Apter Power inventory and sourcing confirmation.

Define the new field-potential boundary

  • Purpose: identify the downstream functional or voltage group.
  • Source: select the approved AC or DC supply and protection.
  • Boundary: document where upstream field power stops.
  • Capacity: keep the new field bus within 10 A.

Prevent cross-domain mistakes

  • Terminals: distinguish L1/L2-N or DC positive/common wiring.
  • Ground: bond the chassis terminal as instructed.
  • Measurement: verify potential on both sides before inserting I/O.
  • Diagnostics: use external readings because no indicators are fitted.

Supported product applications

  • AC/DC separation: introduce a different field-voltage class downstream.
  • Analog partitions: isolate field-power distribution for sensitive signal groups.
  • Motion auxiliaries: create documented functional power boundaries.
  • Mixed I/O stations: keep POINTBus communication continuous across power domains.
Description
1734-FPD breaks the field-power bus at its left boundary and introduces a new source for modules to its right while all POINTBus signals continue through the station. It accepts documented 12 or 24 V DC and 120 or 240 V AC field-power applications.

By separating auxiliary, motion, analog, or mixed-voltage groups, 1734-FPD creates logical and functional power partitions without adding backplane current. The module has no status indicators, so diagnosis depends on voltage measurements, wiring records, upstream protection, and the behavior of downstream I/O.

Before installing 1734-FPD, confirm Series B, adapter family, power class, 10 A field-bus limit, isolation boundary, terminal assignment, grounding, and protection. It must not be selected as a substitute for 1734-EP24DC when downstream modules require additional POINTBus current.

Technical notes
Do not treat 1734-FPD as an expansion power supply: it passes POINTBus signals and current but only starts a new field-power potential. Verify Series B, AC or DC source, voltage class, 10 A bus limit, upstream protection, neutral or common, chassis ground, isolation boundary, downstream loads, and absence of status indicators before energizing the partition.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Why does 1734-FPD not increase the number of modules that POINTBus can power?
It passes backplane current through but adds no POINTBus supply; use a supported expansion power supply when the downstream current budget is exhausted.
How should a technician verify 1734-FPD when it has no status indicators?
Measure the new field source, common or neutral, chassis ground, downstream voltage, and protection state, then compare I/O behavior with the wiring diagram.
Can 1734-FPD introduce 120 V AC after a 24 V DC I/O group?
Yes within the published architecture and ratings, provided the field-power boundary, terminals, protection, downstream modules, spacing, and installation codes support that voltage.
What causes downstream I/O to communicate through 1734-FPD but have no field power?
POINTBus passes independently; check the new AC or DC source, fuse or breaker, terminal polarity, neutral or common, wiring continuity, and downstream voltage.
How is 1734-FPD different from a 24 V DC expansion power supply during retrofit planning?
The distributor changes field potential without adding backplane current; an expansion supply creates a new POINTBus power segment and has different voltage limits.
Which site details are needed to source 1734-FPD correctly?
Provide Series, new and upstream voltage classes, downstream module list, current demand, terminal-base arrangement, quantity, nameplate photos, destination, and required date.
