More Information

Overview Manuals Specifications Cold-Junction Setup Isolated Diagnostics Product Applications

Features:

  • Isolated measurement: two differential thermocouple channels
  • Sensor breadth: nine documented thermocouple types
  • Cold-junction support: 1734-TBCJC and 1734-RTBCJC provide the recommended compensation path
1734-IT2I is intended for low-level thermocouple signals that benefit from individual channel isolation.

Temperature accuracy depends on matching sensor alloy, extension cable, polarity, cold-junction hardware, and the configured curve from probe to controller.

Commissioning should challenge both temperature conversion and the open-wire diagnostic path while recording actual tag refresh behavior.

Availability of 1734-IT2I is subject to Apter Power inventory and sourcing confirmation.

Preserve the reference temperature

  • Base: use 1734-TBCJC where the recommended compensation method is required.
  • RTB: verify the 1734-RTBCJC identity and seating.
  • Enable: align the cold-junction bit with installed hardware.
  • Check: compare terminal temperature and channel reading during commissioning.

Trace a thermocouple fault by channel

  • Alloy: inspect probe and extension wire for the selected type.
  • Polarity: correct reversed conductors before applying offsets.
  • Open wire: use channel status to locate a broken path.
  • Refresh: consider the approximately 25 ms fastest controller-tag update.

Supported product applications

  • Furnace monitoring: acquire supported high-temperature thermocouple types.
  • Machine heat zones: isolate two low-level sensor channels near equipment.
  • Process skids: combine cold-junction-compensated temperature inputs with POINT I/O.
  • Maintenance retrofits: restore a documented isolated thermocouple position.
Description
1734-IT2I accepts two differential, individually isolated thermocouple inputs in a POINT I/O station. The Series C module supports Type B, C, E, J, K, N, R, S, and T sensors with 15-bit-plus-sign conversion across a ±75 mV input range.

Cold-junction compensation for 1734-IT2I is provided through the 1734-RTBCJC removable terminal block used with the 1734-TBCJC base, or through an engineered alternative described by Rockwell Automation. Per-channel filtering and open-wire status support stable temperature acquisition and fault diagnosis.

Selection of 1734-IT2I should include the thermocouple type, extension-wire alloy, polarity, isolation requirement, cold-junction method, filter, controller RPI, and acceptance temperature points. The fastest controller-tag refresh is about 25 ms even when the module detects input changes more quickly.

Technical notes
For 1734-IT2I, cold-junction and thermocouple wiring choices determine measurement credibility. Verify Series C, sensor alloy and polarity, 1734-TBCJC with 1734-RTBCJC compensation, channel isolation, shield routing, notch filter, RPI-derived tag refresh, open-wire action, and the absence of input overvoltage protection before validating both channels at known temperatures.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Why can 1734-IT2I display a plausible but offset temperature after terminal-base service?
Verify the 1734-RTBCJC, cold-junction enable bit, thermocouple type, extension-wire alloy, polarity, terminal temperature, and any configured offset.
What should be investigated when one 1734-IT2I channel goes to maximum temperature?
Open-wire behavior can force a high value; inspect the probe, extension cable, terminal block, cold-junction leads, and channel status before recalibration.
How does 1734-IT2I channel isolation affect a two-sensor installation?
Each differential input is individually isolated, but shield routing, sensor grounding, cable separation, and the terminal-base reference still require documented engineering.
Why may faster notch settings on 1734-IT2I not produce equally fast controller tags?
Module detection and controller refresh are different; the RPI determines EPR, and the fastest controller-tag update is approximately 25 ms.
Can 1734-IT2I use ordinary copper extension wire for every thermocouple type?
No. Match the documented thermocouple and extension-wire alloys and observe polarity; dissimilar junctions can create temperature-dependent measurement error.
What information should accompany a 1734-IT2I quotation request?
Provide Series, thermocouple types, 1734-TBCJC or compensation method, controller profile, quantity, label photos, destination, and required delivery date.
