Features:
- Mixed Prox/Accel And Velomitor Channels Provide Flexible Sensor Monitoring
- Internal Barriers And Terminations Ensure Intrinsically Safe Operation
- Compatible With Multiple 3500 Series Monitor Modules For Hazardous Areas
The Bently Nevada 135489-02 I/O Module is engineered to deliver reliable sensor connectivity for 3500 series systems. Its combination of 2 Prox/Accel channels and 2 Velomitor channels allows operators to monitor multiple sensor types within a single module, providing versatility for both 3500/42M vibration and 3500/70M velocity monitoring applications.
This module is equipped with internal barriers and terminations, enhancing safety for intrinsically safe installations and simplifying wiring in hazardous environments. Compared to standard I/O modules, 135489-02 reduces the need for external protection devices and ensures accurate data transmission across the 3500 rack.
Although it can be technically installed in 3500/72M systems, it is primarily optimized for 3500/42M and 3500/70M modules where mixed Prox/Accel and Velomitor inputs are required. Its design allows standard and internal barrier modules to coexist within the same rack, offering flexibility for system upgrades while maintaining physical separation between safe and hazardous wiring.
The 135489-02 Bently Nevada I/O Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Software Version Requirements: To enable the internal safety barrier function, Rack Configuration Software 2.3 or later (3500 Rack Configuration Software) is required.
- Firmware Compatibility: 3500/42M: The monitor firmware must meet the minimum version requirement (the latest version is generally recommended to support all intrinsically safe parameter settings). Update Method: The I/O module itself typically does not independently store complex operating firmware; its functional logic is mainly controlled by the front-end monitor module (such as 3500/42M). Firmware updates usually refer to updating the monitor motherboard or Rack Interface Module (RIM).
- Unconfigured State: When shipped from the factory, monitors such as the 3500/42 are in an "unconfigured" state. The I/O module channels must be activated after uploading the configuration file via software.
- Hybrid Monitoring Needs: This module's unique 2+2 channel configuration is suitable for scenarios where both eddy current probes (for displacement measurement) and velocity detectors are used under the same monitor.
- Typical Industries: Widely used for online monitoring of large rotating machinery (such as compressors, pumps, and steam turbines) in industries such as petrochemicals, oil refining, and power generation.
- Environmental Limitations: When using the internal safety barrier I/O module, the operating temperature range is 0°C to +65°C. Note that this is slightly higher than the lower limit temperature of the standard I/O module (-30°C).
- Space Layout: The internal safety barrier I/O module is approximately 50mm (2 in) deeper than the standard module, therefore it is not suitable for racks with a depth of only 400mm; a 600mm rack is recommended.
- Channel Pair Programming: Channels for the 3500/42M and 3500/70M are typically configured in pairs (i.e., channels 1 & 2 in one group, and channels 3 & 4 in another).
- Function Assignment: 3500/42M: Can be configured for radial vibration, axial displacement, eccentricity, acceleration, or speed functions. 3500/70M: Can be configured for impact acceleration, reciprocating speed, etc.
- Grounding Requirements (Critical): In the frame configuration, the 3500/04 intrinsically safe grounding module must be identified and installed. If the grounding module is not correctly configured in the software, the safety barrier module may not function properly.
- Alarm Setting: Through the configuration software, users can set an "Alert" value for each active proportional value and a "Danger" value for two of the proportional values.
