Features:

  • Interface Between PLC Backplane and Analog Field Devices
  • Combines Capability of Current/Voltage Output Generation with Software-Based Range Configuration
  • Operates in Conjunction with Logicmaster 90-30/20/Micro, CIMPLICITY Control, and Hand-Held Programmer Configuration Tools
The IC693ALG392 operates as the 8-Channel Analog Current/Voltage Output Module in a Series 90-30 rack, providing reliable analog signal generation to field devices within the system. It continuously converts digital data (15 to 16 bits, 2's complement format) from %AQ registers to analog outputs (current or voltage) and transmits these signals through the output channels to support real-time control of actuators, drives, and process control devices. Seamless range configuration is standard with the IC693ALG392, however using software-based configuration tools will allow individual channel setup for 0 to +10 V, –10 to +10 V, 0 to 20 mA, or 4 to 20 mA ranges without physical jumpers or switches. The IC693ALG392 has made improvements in several areas over previous analog output designs in addition to incorporating open-wire fault detection capability within the Series 90-30 rack.

The IC693ALG392 provides essential analog output functions common to the entire control system, and is a critical component of the control output path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall process control system. One IC693ALG392 analog output module occupies one full slot in the rack and can be mounted in any I/O slot of a 5-slot or 10-slot baseplate within the Series 90-30 system, with all eight channels updated every 12 milliseconds.

For Critical Analog Output applications, the Series 90-30 System utilizes the IC693ALG392 output module installed in any available I/O slot. In addition to standard current/voltage output operation, the IC693ALG392 also performs automatic fault detection and output retention. The IC693ALG392 fault management configuration executes open-wire monitoring and power-loss behavior using the internal software settings specified in the module specifications. Using this method, the analog output system continually monitors the health of all eight channels. If the system detects that the IC693ALG392 is no longer providing stable output (such as during an open-wire fault or system power interruption), it will automatically report the fault to the CPU and maintain outputs at the last known state or reset to zero based on configured behavior, ensuring reliable operation in critical industrial applications.

The IC693ALG392 General Electric 8-Channel Analog Current/Voltage Output Module may still be available for purchase and support from authorized distributors beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Description
IC693ALG392 is an 8-channel analog current/voltage output module designed for the Series 90-30 PLC system by General Electric. The module provides up to eight single-ended output channels, each capable of delivering either current loop outputs or voltage outputs. Each channel supports two selectable current ranges and two selectable voltage ranges, allowing individual configuration based on application requirements. The module does not include physical jumpers or switches; all configuration is performed through software.

Output ranges for IC693ALG392 are configurable using Logicmaster 90-30/20/Micro, CIMPLICITY Control Programming Software, or the Series 90-30 Hand-Held Programmer. The default output range is 0 to +10 V. Supported ranges include 0 to +10 V (unipolar), –10 to +10 V (bipolar), 0 to 20 mA, and 4 to 20 mA. Each channel converts 15 to 16 bits of digital data to an analog output, depending on the selected range, with all eight channels updated every 12 milliseconds. User data is written in %AQ registers in a 16-bit 2’s complement format.

IC693ALG392 also supports fault detection and output retention. In current output modes, open-wire faults are reported to the CPU for each channel. The module can maintain a known last state when system power is interrupted. As long as user-supplied power is applied, each output either retains its last value or resets to zero, depending on the module’s configured behavior. This ensures reliable analog output operation in critical industrial applications.
