Features:
- Thirty-two 24 VDC inputs support positive- or negative-logic field circuits.
- RX7i installations require IC697MDL653 hardware Version B or higher.
- The module draws 0.3 A from the rack's +5 VDC backplane supply.
IC697MDL653 brings a dense set of discrete field signals into a Series 90-70 control system while retaining flexibility over sourcing and sinking conventions.
Its RX7i compatibility boundary helps maintenance teams distinguish an acceptable spare from an earlier hardware build before a shutdown window begins.
Rack-power and wiring checks can be separated cleanly: the backplane demand is concentrated on +5 VDC, while field behavior depends on the selected 24 VDC logic reference.
The General Electric IC697MDL653 24 VDC Positive/Negative Logic 32-Point Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Supported Switching Devices
- Contact inputs: IC697MDL653 accepts signals from pushbuttons, limit switches, and selector switches used in 24 VDC control circuits.
- Proximity sensors: Both two-wire and three-wire electronic proximity switches are covered, with each device evaluated against the module's ON-state and OFF-state limits.
- PLC outputs: A voltage-compatible IC697 output module can drive an input directly, allowing controller outputs to be returned as monitored logic states.
- Leakage check: OFF-state compatibility requires the switch leakage to remain below 2 mA when the module input voltage is 5 V or less.
How Signal Changes Reach the Controller
- Status display: Thirty-two LEDs at the top of IC697MDL653 show the ON or OFF state seen on the PLC side of each input circuit.
- Input path: Each field signal passes through an opto-isolator and selectable filter before the system interface reports its state across the backplane.
- Filter timing: The complete module can use a 1 ms or 10 ms input filter; the selected time applies to every point rather than to individual channels.
- Interrupt response: Point A1 can interrupt an IC697 CPU on either a rising or falling transition, and its interrupt response is not changed by the filter-time selection.
Four Isolated Input Groups
- Group layout: IC697MDL653 divides its thirty-two inputs into four isolated banks of eight, separating the A, B, C, and D field groups.
- Individual feeds: Terminals 10, 20, 30, and 40 supply the respective banks because the four group power inputs are not connected inside the module.
- Logic direction: Each input may sink or source current between the field device and its user common, supporting positive- or negative-logic circuits.
- Two-wire behavior: Because a two-wire proximity switch powers itself through the signal pair, its voltage drop and leakage must both fall within the published compatibility region.
Software Settings and Slot Identity
- Reference assignment: I/O references are configured in the programming software, so the module requires no addressing jumpers or DIP switches.
- Programming access: The documented configuration path supports Ethernet TCP/IP or the SNP port from the applicable IC697 programming environment.
- Module options: Configuration selects the common filter time and, with an IC697 CPU, enables point A1 as a rising-edge or falling-edge interrupt source.
- Replacement control: A mechanical key remains on the backplane center rail after extraction and restricts the slot to an identical module type.
