More Information

Overview Manuals Channel Assignment Transmitter Wiring Module Composition Power Boundaries

Features:

  • IS230SNAIH2A pairs PAICH1B conversion with STAIH2A field termination.
  • Input assignments distinguish configurable channels from current-only channels.
  • The module supports internally and externally powered transmitter loops.
IS230SNAIH2A keeps IONet communication in the pack and removable field wiring on the terminal board.

Two analog outputs share the same simplex terminal assembly as the inputs.

Electronic identification checks the terminal-board identity seen by the PAIC pack.

The General Electric IS230SNAIH2A Mark VIe Analog Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Ten Analog Inputs

  • Channels 1–8: Each input can be configured for ±10 V or 0–20 mA.
  • Channels 9–10: The final pair is assigned to current-input service.
  • Output pair: Two terminal-board channels provide 0–20 mA analog outputs.
  • Signal conversion: The PAIC pack digitizes field inputs for transfer over IONet.

Field Loop Arrangements

  • Two-wire loops: Transmitters can use the module supply and a shared signal return.
  • Three-wire devices: Separate supply and signal conductors are supported.
  • Four-wire devices: Independently powered signal sources can terminate at STAI.
  • External supply: Field-powered transmitters may bypass the onboard loop source.

Pack and Terminal Board

  • I/O pack: PAICH1B performs conversion, diagnostics, and IONet communication.
  • Terminal board: STAIH2A provides the simplex field termination.
  • Removable blocks: High-density Euro-style connectors retain field wiring.
  • Identification: An electronic ID device reports terminal-board identity to the pack.

Supply and Loop Limits

  • Module input: The assembly accepts 22.5–28.6 V dc.
  • Maximum draw: PAICH1B current is limited to 0.49 A.
  • Loop supply: Transmitter power remains between 22.8 and 25.2 V.
  • Source current: Each defined transmitter-power output is limited to 21 mA.
Description
Built from a PAICH1B I/O pack and an STAIH2A terminal board, General Electric IS230SNAIH2A is a Mark VIe analog module for the EX2100e excitation-control I/O arrangement. The pack handles conversion and network communication while the terminal board carries field wiring.

Input channels on IS230SNAIH2A are divided between configurable voltage/current positions and current-only positions. This distinction determines where a voltage source may be landed and prevents the last two inputs from being treated as universal analog channels.

Transmitter loops connected to IS230SNAIH2A may use two-, three-, or four-wire arrangements, including independently powered devices. The wiring choice determines whether the onboard loop source is used or bypassed; it does not change the simplex STAIH2A terminal architecture.

One or two IONet connections can reach the PAICH1B pack in IS230SNAIH2A. Terminal-board identification is returned to the pack so the installed STAI hardware can be checked before the analog signals are placed in service.

Technical notes
IS230SNAIH2A is the exact PAICH1B plus STAIH2A assembly; the H2A terminal board keeps the module in a simplex field-terminal configuration.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
A ±10 V source on channel 9 of IS230SNAIH2A produces the wrong reading. Is that channel voltage-capable?
No. Only channels 1–8 on IS230SNAIH2A accept either ±10 V or 0–20 mA; channels 9 and 10 are assigned to current input.
Why does a two-wire transmitter connected to IS230SNAIH2A remain unpowered?
For an internally supplied loop, verify the IS230SNAIH2A transmitter-power terminals, the 22.8–25.2 V source range, and the 21 mA per-output boundary.
An independently powered transmitter is being added to IS230SNAIH2A. Should it also use the onboard loop supply?
No. Route the external transmitter supply independently and land only the defined signal circuit at IS230SNAIH2A; the onboard loop source is bypassed for that wiring arrangement.
The controller sends an analog command but the field loop stays at zero on IS230SNAIH2A. Which terminal path should be checked?
Trace the affected one of the two 0–20 mA output channels through the removable STAIH2A terminal block on IS230SNAIH2A and verify the field-loop return.
IS230SNAIH2A reports a terminal-hardware mismatch after the I/O pack is replaced. What identifies the connected board?
The electronic ID device on the STAIH2A terminal board reports its identity to the PAICH1B pack in IS230SNAIH2A; inspect that board and pack connection.
Can two IONet connections make IS230SNAIH2A a TMR field-terminal assembly?
No. The PAICH1B pack in IS230SNAIH2A can connect to one or two IONet networks, but the STAIH2A field termination remains simplex.
