Features:
- Phase B Series Six interface for one Genius serial bus
- Supports up to 31 additional Genius devices on the bus
- BOARD OK and COMM OK indicators with front-panel Hand-held Monitor access
IC660CBB903 is the Phase B Series Six bus-controller option that operates without automatic I/O-block diagnostic reporting to the CPU.
It manages the two asynchronous data paths formed by the Genius bus scan and the PLC sweep, using onboard memory to exchange inputs, outputs, commands, and status.
A correct installation depends on rack power, I/O reference allocation, bus baud rate, cable length, channelization, and the mix of Phase A and Phase B devices in the system.
The General Electric IC660CBB903 Series Six Bus Controller may remain available for legacy-system quotation and support through Apter Power.

Scan and data exchange
- Bus token: The Genius bus scan rotates a communication token among the connected devices.
- Input handling: The controller receives and stores input data produced by I/O blocks during the bus scan.
- Output handling: Permitted output data and commands are distributed to selected blocks from the Series Six CPU.
- Shared memory: Dedicated onboard RAM bridges the bus scan and the independent PLC sweep.
Series Six installation
- Supported racks: The module can occupy the CPU rack or an applicable regular or high-capacity local I/O rack.
- Rack load: Each controller consumes 20 load units at +5 V and no +12 V power.
- Local distance: A local I/O rack may be positioned up to the documented distance from the CPU through the Series Six I/O chain.
- Remote rack caution: Remote-rack placement is possible but reduces communications capability and is not recommended for fast I/O.
Reference and channel planning
- I/O references: Blocks on separate Genius buses must not use overlapping Series Six reference ranges.
- Channelization: Phase B hardware can perform channel selection where expanded I/O addressing is used.
- Mixed I/O: Conventional and Genius I/O sharing a channel require predetermined reference areas to prevent conflicts.
- System capacity: The practical number of controllers is governed by CPU I/O addressing and rack-power capacity.
Observed indications
- BOARD OK: This indicator identifies the operating state of the bus-controller module.
- COMM OK: This indicator reflects communication status on the connected Genius bus.
- Central monitoring: The faceplate connector permits bus and block monitoring, forces, pulse tests, and fault review with an HHM.
- No CPU block reports: I/O-block diagnostics must be reviewed with the HHM because this model omits automatic diagnostic delivery to the CPU.
