Features:

  • The F8650X is TÜV-certified to IEC 61508 SIL 3 and ISO 13849 PL e / Category 4, featuring fail-safe design that reliably transitions processes to a safe state upon fault detection.
  • Integrates two clock-synchronized 32-bit microprocessors (Intel 386EX at 25 MHz), each with independent memory and hardware comparators for cross-checking.
  • Operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C with up to IP66 protection rating.
The F8650X, as the central processor module of the HIMA Safety Instrumented System (SIS), features TÜV certification to IEC 61508 SIL 3 and ISO 13849 PL e / Category 4 – the highest single-module safety integrity levels available. This certification means the F8650X meets the most demanding risk assessment requirements for industrial safety control. The fail-safe design philosophy ensures that regardless of any internal hardware or software fault, the module reliably transitions the industrial process to a pre-defined safe state.

The F8650X achieves exceptional hardware reliability through its dual-processor architecture. Two clock-synchronized 32-bit microprocessors (Intel 386EX at 25 MHz) operate in parallel, each with independent Flash-EPROM for operating system and user program storage, plus SRAM for data memory. A testable hardware comparator continuously compares the outputs of both processors. Only when the results match is the output executed; upon detecting a discrepancy, the system immediately identifies a fault and can perform a controlled shutdown or switchover.

The F8650X is engineered for demanding industrial environments with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, ensuring reliable performance in freezing outdoor conditions or high-temperature steel mills. Select models offer IP66 protection against dust and water ingress. For communication, the F8650X features two electrically isolated RS-485 serial interfaces supporting Modbus RTU protocol. Through engineering tools (such as ELOP II TCP or SILworX) and optional communication modules (such as F8627X), it seamlessly integrates Ethernet, Profibus, and other networks.

The F8650X HIMA Control Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Description
The F8650X serves as the core processing unit for safety-critical control systems, designed to deliver reliable performance in industrial automation environments. At its heart, the F8650X utilizes a 32-bit Intel 386EX microprocessor running at a clock frequency of 25 MHz.

For system integration and diagnostics, the F8650X is equipped with robust communication and monitoring interfaces. It provides two electrically isolated RS-485 serial interfaces for network communication.

The F8650X is constructed on two European standard printed circuit boards (PCBs), one dedicated to the main processor and another for the diagnostic display, ensuring a modular and serviceable design.

Handling procedures for the F8650X are crucial for maintaining system integrity. Before removal, its fixing screws must be completely loosened. The module is then extracted using its front ejection lever in a quick, upward motion to prevent the generation of faulty signals within the live bus system.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What are the key processor and memory specifications of the F8650X central module?
The F8650X is powered by a 32-bit Intel 386EX microprocessor operating at 25 MHz. It is equipped with three distinct 1 MB memory banks: 1 MB Flash-EPROM for the operating system, 1 MB Flash-EPROM for the user program, and 1 MB SRAM for data. The actual utilization of the program and data memory depends on the specific version of the operating system running on the F8650X.
What safety and diagnostic features are integrated into the F8650X?
The F8650X includes a critical safety-related watchdog circuit. This circuit provides a 24V output, loadable up to 500 mA and short-circuit proof, to initiate a controlled system shutdown upon detecting a fault. For diagnostics, it features a built-in four-digit matrix display that can be configured to show various selectable system status and information parameters.
How is the bus station address configured on the F8650X, and what are the limits?
The F8650X's bus station address is set via hardware switches. For serial (RS-485) networks, the address range is 1 to 31. For Ethernet networks, an expanded range of 1 to 99 is possible, but only when using operating system versions BS41q/51q V7.0-8 (05.31) or later. Regardless of the addressing range used, the total number of communication partners (nodes) in any network with the F8650X is still limited to 64.
What is the correct procedure for removing and installing the F8650X module?
For safe removal of the F8650X, first completely loosen its fixing screws. Then, push the front ejection lever downward and quickly remove the module in an upward motion to avoid triggering faulty signals on the live bus. For installation, place the F8650X onto the terminal block and press it inward firmly and quickly until it is fully seated. These swift, deliberate actions are necessary to ensure electrical connection integrity and prevent system disturbances.
