Features:
- Interface Between External Communication Networks and Controller Chassis Backplane
- Combines Capability of Ethernet and Serial Communication with External Device Support
- Operates in Conjunction with Experion™ PKS and Safety Builder
The FC-USI-0001 V1.3 operates as the Universal Communication Interface in a Controller chassis, providing reliable Ethernet and Serial communication to all modules within the system. It continuously handles data exchange between external devices (Experion™ PKS via Ethernet, Safety Builder via Serial) and distributes communication signals through the rack backplane to support steady state operation of all monitors and modules. Seamless communication transfer is standard with the FC-USI-0001 V1.3, ensuring uninterrupted data flow between the controller and external systems. The FC-USI-0001 V1.3 has made improvements in several areas over previous communication module designs in addition to incorporating universal communication protocol capability within the Controller chassis.
The FC-USI-0001 V1.3 provides essential communication functions common to the entire rack, and is a critical component of the control path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall control system. One FC-USI-0001 V1.3 communication module is installed per chassis to enable external connectivity. The FC-USI-0001 V1.3 occupies a dedicated slot in the chassis and is always located within the Controller chassis (the dedicated communication module position).
For dual communication path applications, the system can utilize additional network infrastructure to complement the FC-USI-0001 V1.3 communication module. In addition to standard Ethernet operation, the Serial configuration also performs direct programming interface connectivity. The FC-USI-0001 V1.3 dual communication configuration executes protocol handling using the internal circuitry specified in the module options. Using this method, the communication system continually monitors the health of both Ethernet and Serial interfaces. If the system detects that one communication path is no longer providing stable data transfer (outside configured protocol/tolerance levels), it will automatically utilize the alternative interface and log the event for system diagnostics.
The FC-USI-0001 V1.3 Honeywell Universal Interface Module (USI) may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
