Features:
- True Hot-Swap with Zero Process Disruption
- Intelligent Current Sharing for N+1 Redundancy
- Comprehensive Diagnostic Relay Outputs
The ICS Triplex T8231C supports live insertion and removal without powering down the Trusted chassis. The staggered pin design ensures ground and AC connections are made first (AC OK LED illuminates), followed by DC output (PWR OK LED). This allows safe replacement of a failed unit in under 60 seconds while maintaining SIL 3 loop integrity.
When multiple ICS Triplex T8231C units are installed in the same T8240 Power Shelf, their analog current-sharing circuits automatically balance the load. If one unit fails, the remaining units instantly assume full load without voltage dip. This supports both high-power (2250W non-redundant) and high-availability (1500W N+1) configurations.
Each ICS Triplex T8231C provides three isolated volt-free relay contacts (AC Fail, DC Fail, Over-Temperature) accessible via the Power Port's CON3 connector. These are normally-closed when healthy and open on fault, compatible with any PLC or DCS digital input. This enables remote monitoring of power health without proprietary communication protocols.
The T8231C ICS Triplex 750W Hot-Swap Power Pack may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Emergency Shutdown (ESD) Systems for Offshore Platforms:The ICS Triplex T8231C powers Trusted logic solvers that execute SIL 3-rated ESD logic. Its N+1 redundancy ensures that a single power pack failure does not compromise the safety function, even during hurricane-season operations where maintenance access may be delayed for days.
- Fire & Gas (F&G) Detection in LNG Terminals:In cryogenic environments where flammable gas detection requires uninterrupted 24Vdc power, the ICS Triplex T8231C provides galvanically isolated outputs, preventing ground loops that could trigger false alarms in sensitive infrared gas detectors.
- Burner Management Systems (BMS) for Power Boilers:The ICS Triplex T8231C supports hot-swap replacement without flame scanner dropout. This is critical during boiler operation, where a power glitch could initiate a purge cycle, causing hours of lost generation. Live replacement keeps the burner management logic active.
- High-Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS):For pipelines requiring shutdown within 50ms of overpressure detection, the ICS Triplex T8231C delivers clean 24Vdc with <150mV ripple, ensuring fast solenoid valve response without chatter. Its 20ms hold-up time bridges brief AC sags from motor starts or lightning strikes.
- Remote Health Monitoring via Volt-Free Relay Contacts:Unlike smart power supplies that require proprietary fieldbuses, the ICS Triplex T8231C provides three dry SPDT relay outputs (AC Fail, DC Fail, OTP). These can be wired directly to standard 24Vdc discrete input modules (e.g., Trusted T8403), enabling local annunciation or PLC alarm logging without protocol converters.
- Output Voltage Fine-Tuning Using T8234 Power Controller:When field actuators require 26Vdc instead of nominal 24Vdc, the ICS Triplex T8231C can be adjusted in 100mV steps from 24V to 28V. The Power Controller addresses up to 12 power packs across 4 shelves, displaying individual pack current (100mA resolution) and voltage for calibration verification.
- Current Sharing Verification Without External Meters:The ICS Triplex T8231C includes an analog current-sharing bus (CS pin on the interface connector). By measuring voltage between CS and V-, maintenance engineers can verify load balance without breaking circuits. A differential >3.2A indicates a failing pack that should be scheduled for replacement.
- Power Shelf Address Assignment for I²C Diagnostics:For installations with multiple Power Shelves, the ICS Triplex T8231C allows address setting via jumpers J1/J2 on each Power Port. This enables the Power Controller to individually identify and adjust up to 12 packs, creating a low-cost power management network without upgrading to a full DCS.
- Temperature: Industrial Indoor with Derating:The ICS Triplex T8231C is rated for 0°C to +60°C ambient. Unlike datacenter power supplies (40°C limit), it tolerates non-air-conditioned control rooms. However, above 45°C, output must be derated—calculate available power as 750W * (1 - 0.01333 * (Tamb - 45)) for 45–50°C range.
- Humidity: Non-Condensing with Coating Option:Standard ICS Triplex T8231C units operate at 10–95% relative humidity, non-condensing. For coastal or chemical plant environments where humidity cycles cause condensation, specify the "-C" variant with conformal coating (indicated by the C suffix) to prevent PCB corrosion.
- Altitude: Up to 3,962m with Thermal Derating:The ICS Triplex T8231C can be installed at altitudes up to 3,962m (13,000 ft). Above 2,438m, derate maximum operating temperature by 2°C per 304m rise. At 3,962m, the effective maximum ambient is 50°C instead of 60°C. This is critical for mining or high-desert installations.
- EMC: Heavy Industrial Immunity (IEC 61000-4 Levels):The ICS Triplex T8231C withstands electrostatic discharge (IEC 61000-4-2 Level 3: ±6kV contact, ±8kV air), radiated RF immunity (Level 2), and electrical fast transients (Level 3). This ensures reliable operation near variable frequency drives, welding equipment, or radio transmitters without external filtering.
